Hey guys. I actually found this site through a seller via autotrader. I have a Legacy GT Limited that is great in many ways but it's an automatic. I found a nice Black GT 5spd and was going to swap the goodies over and then sell off the Limited.

I haven't had an automatic since my first car, because once I learned stick there was no reason to go back to automatic. However, since I'm into sports cars (Autocrossed my last two...) I figured the Suby didn't have to be stick since my sports car was, and the auto was good for trips and NYC days...

So I've been through 3 Integra's, 2 former MR2's, and one 94 Rx7, and now own a MKII (1991) Mr2 NA 5spd in Red, and my Black Legacy GT. My other two Mr2's were a MKII Turbo model and a MKI NA (88). The 94 Twin Turbo Mazda was a great car, ran like a top, but I needed more money in my pocket (and not in a car) at the time....but I do miss it! An LS1-FD is in my future, someday...

Nonetheless I'm a 23 year old Realtor getting married next year, and I'm here to discuss, trade info, and talk Legacy/Subaru...glad to find a forum for this specific car.

Name's Daniel :) And I have this same SN on mr2oc.com, nopistons.com, Suparforums.com, rx7club.com, etc. etc.

Welcome, your cars look great!

I'm a bit of an MR2 fanatic myself, but events have always conspired against me getting one.

Welcome to the site

Had the headgaskets replaced on that GT yet?

Not to go OT, but why do you ALWAYS say this?

Of the number of GT's on this site, how many have replaced their HGs? one? two?

Pretty much all of them but you, actually. Or they're still at lowish mileage. Trust me, the numbers are very high.

Show me some documented evidence. Yeah, I'm calling you out Mr 2.2>2.5! :P

Well, I don't have access to SOA's records, but...

(read farther in, as most of the cars are low mileage)

I'd guess it's around 90% failure rate.

And Huffer, you don't even know if yours were replaced or not, I thought?

Interesting. Sorry to keep going OT...

From my totally unscientific scan of that thread, I think the failure rate is lower - about half the posters said they had problems.

I found out that my headg's weren't replaced - I managed to sweettalk the dealer into calling the original owner, and she had all the service records. That's how I also know for sure the roof was cut off and replaced.

Guess my engine is an aberration then!
Still, my personal experience shows that if the car is not driven hard (you should see the original owner), the head gaskets will be fine.
In addition, it's likely that those that post on NASIOC et al are spirited drivers, and therefore in the minority of Subaru owners. Certainly the lady that owned my car had never heard of "Subaru car clubs".

Agreed.
