My recent project

Well, I'm sure some of you guys remember the incident where I ruined my shifter, so the ball on the end was completely destoryed. This, in essence, doubled the throw of my shifting, and made it super-sloppy. I got used to it, but I noticed the tendancy of my left foot was still to let the clutch out at the old rythm of shifting, hence, I started grinding gears that I've never had problems with before. So yesterday, I decided to tackle the project. I recently bought an impact wrench, and I must say- it would've been impossible without it, considering the limited space I was working with.

So I dropped the exhaust, dropped the heatshielding for the midpipe, and got up in there and replaced the linkage. Easier said then done. I also decided I'd make the new shifter (gotten off a '96 Impreza, thanks to Aaron [AFBeefcake]) a bit shorter, so I hacksawed about an inch off of it, leaving a decent amount of thread for the shifter. Then I threw everything back together. And thank god I dropped the whole exhaust instead of messing with that donut gasket, that made things much easier :smile:

So my thoughts? Holy S H I T !!! Everything is crisp, clean, and there is less slop even compared to the old shifter when it was in decent condition. Now I need some Kartboy bushings :twisted:

I plan to install my GroupN tranny mount today. I left some of the exhaust hangers loose for this purpose :smile:

Sheepdog, I would still be interested in the RS linkage if possible, because I would like to convert to a newer style, for better aftermarket.
