The GT would eventually get a turbo kit.
The L would get a zero mile Turbo Legacy motor.
Which ever one I do go with will be turned into a nice, suttle high power daily driver... ok, maybe not high power, but enough to make it enjoyable. The suspension brakes and looks will also be taken care of.

I'm leaning towards the L, but what do you all think? Is there any reason besides the slightly bigger motor that I should look into the GT? Or should I stick with the Beige (FTW) L?

Thinking about reliability, an actual turbo motor swap would be better than boosting a less reliable 2.5 motor. So for that reason I would say the 2.2 L. The L also has a sun roof which is sweet. Now having said that... Why wouldn't you swap the 2.2 turbo motor into the GT seeing as how there is only a $100 difference in the two? Then you'd have bigger brakes, better looking aero, two piece headlights, a spoiler, hood scoop (good for a small TMIC), better looking wheels, etc... and a car with less over all miles on the rest of the parts.

So, my final vote, the GT with the turbo motor transplant.

That's what I just found out from my buddy that I might buy the 2.2T long block from. He says buy his longblock (haha), take the 2.5 DOHC heads, and get a JC Sports or PDM old school turbo kit. Hum....

That would be a bad idea, IMO. The GT ECU would probably freak out and throw codes, and put it in safe mode, effectively making your fuel cut 4000rpms :lol:

you're going to boost it regardless, so I would go with the shell with the least amount of wear and tear.

The GT has the nicer trim levels, and if you choose to go stock TMIC, you already have a scoop.

Sunroof option actually adds around 100lbs, so the curb weights of the cars isn't that different.

Think JDM land, there's lots of turbos there. It actually flows quite well, due to the hood dynamics (the hood is longer, and has much better airflow over the top of it, reducing the need for such a tall scoop.

As for the sunroof thing, Huffer, I did include that. Previous L wagons were about 100lbs lighter than that.

Think international, not just JDM. Every other country got the TMIC on the BDs - as for flow, the cut out is very similar to the newer Legacy GT, so I think it works pretty well. The STi scoop is as much for looks, really.

Word on the street is, that the STi scoop had to be so tall, because they never really finished the hood design, but had to make the deadline to get the car out in '04, so they just compensated by making it super-tall. I've heard that the 06 scoop is much less obtrusive, so they probably corrected the problem immediately.

I just don't like the cutout holes for the reverse lights-they look awful.

I also don't like that you're down a set brake/running lights in the back either, although you still have the outside lights for that purpose.

Otherwise, it's pretty cool.

It needs to be a little higher and like you said ^^^ not cover the mid section. I would buy one if it didn't cover that middle section.
