I have to get a new engin because of my problem with a blown rod. Which wold be a better buy in the long run. The installation on the 2.5 is $800-1000 + $1700-2000 for the engin. How mutch would the installation be on a 2.2 and which would be the better buy?

1. What engine did you have?
2. Do you want to retain that same engine size, for ECU compatability?
3. Install for both engines is relatively the same, so cost should be the same also.
4. Long run, 2.2 is probably more durable, though 2.5 block offers more upgrade options and aftermarket support.

To fix your problem, I would just buy a new shortblock and be done with it. No mess, easy installation, brand new engine (sort of).

If you're looking at a different car, I'd reccomend the EJ22 engine, but not for a swap.

+1 on the shortblock. They are around $1400 brand new from the dealer when I did it. You can even get the old heads machined and cleaned up so they are almost like new too. Get some good gaskets and you'll have a really reliable car. If you had the 2.2L before, a 2.5L shortblock will be a very nice upgrade.
