starter instalation problems

ok so i put in my new starter tonight and for some reason when i hook the battery back up the starter decides to run on its own no key in the ignition or anything. it has a life of its own and i have no idea how to fix this i mean its just three wires so you cant really screw that up. any ideas on what the heck i did to my car. or is there a computer thing that i dont know about?

Sounds like a short somewhere, and power is going places it shouldn't be. Have you done any modification to the electrical system recently? Otherwise, I'd check the ignition and see if it isn't making electrical contacts it's not supposed to be making.

its the replacement starter. i know this because i put the old starter back in and not a problem. i also talked to a guy i knoww ho used to work at the shop in the local subaru dealership, and he said it was deffective. so i will take it back and find one online i guess seeing that that was the last one they had.
