I have an opportunity to get a sti axleback with a dent on the tip of the muffler...to me it looks like a BIG scratch on the bottom...this guy wants $90obo...how much do you think should i offer? I definitely like th fact that it has Sti on the tip and OEM. and also should this muffler sound better than the universal muffler? i would like to know ppl's opinions.

I could get a perfect one for $80, so I think $90 for a dented one isn't worth it.
I like the sound of them. No idea what a universal sounds like...

I thought about getting an STi muffler but I just didn't know how it would sound. I heard clips of them but almost every one had like catbacks or other exhaust systems that made them sound really good.

Local STi owner who went totally aftermarket. Had no need for a stock replacement as he voided his warranty LONG ago.
There are plenty out there, you just have to find one.

Fer crying out loud, just go down to your local dealer and ask them to turn one on!

I got mine for $100...
Blew an axle, got towed, dragged the tip on the flat-bed, can see where the dent comes from

Back in the day I picked mine up for $100. With the sound I noticed it wasn't too much louder than stock when it was on my 96 Impreza L. They're nice and "stock" looking though. BTW, I think they all had the dent in them... mine had one too in the center on the bottom...

Haha, I'm a lazy guy, Huffer, I would rather click a link, turn on my speakers and continue sitting on my ass looking at SCOOBYS.

Same here, but after washing your car and it's flooding outside, you kind of don't want to ruin the clean beauty.

ok here is a lil video of my car from last summer at your request.
Magnaflow muffler, 2.25in from the cats (the 3rd cat was actually cut out  ), and NO RESONATOR... which i am considering adding, a year after the fact

hmmm, it sounds pretty good, but it also seems really loud. I'd add that resonator, even though your tone seems to be pretty smooth, it'll quiet it down just a bit.
And there is no "3rd cat" there are only 2 cats on the BD/BK/BGs.

You think $120 shipped is a reasonable price?

not bad, but I bet you could get a lower price. How old/miles?

I'm interested in what an exhaust shop will charge you to install it. I'm getting quotes from $60-200 for a 6" extension and a hanger lengthening. This has prompted me to buy the piping, clamp it in place, get it all situated and take it to them to simply button up the joints with some welds.

A buddy gave me his STi catback (yay for free parts) and I had the exhaust shop next to our shop hack up the midpipe and axleback to make it fit. He charged me $120, which means I'd exprect to pay around 180-200 for the complete job if I wasn't working for a shop. That's for the full catback, though.
I'll get some audio of mine with the car warmed up, but I'm running Borlas to a hi-flow cat, 2.5 mandrel all the way through, so it gets a little raspy ;)
Plus, my cat heastshield rattles like all-get-out :p

Thanks, sybir. About the installation charges, I may get a new custom mid pipe made because Teh Legacy from NASIOC did it to his Legacy and he strongly recommended it so I may do that if it's it not too much but we will see.
