I lazily searched through posts to see if this has been discussed allready and didn't find anything...plus its probly a stupid question but what is the purpose of a hood scoop on a non-turbo car? Looks? (they do look cool) The possibility to swap and not have to cut or buy a hood? Do they actually help cool the engine or supply intake air? It just makes sense in my small brain that hood scoop=intercooler. Were there certain years they did this in? I have found a few 97's this way.

Basically I want one because it looks cool. I've done some research and I don't think their are any other gains really. It's a lot of money for something most people don't even consider to be a mod but I love the look of them.

They did it because:
A. It looks sweet, and they were marketing the GT as a hot-looking car
B. Because they had all sorts of turbos in Japan, and the hood scoops were already being made, likely there was an excess, and they turned it into a marketing ploy.

You got lots of stuff planned, huh? I can't wait to see your car after you get done with the STi muffler and hood scoop, both of those are on my list of future mods.

How does the MAP make a difference?

How does the MAP make a difference?

Because the MAP is right on the throttle body, and the MAF is way the hell out by the airbox, so modification for RAM air on the hoodscoop is near impossible.

Like was said, japan had turbo cars, they already had the hoods molded, so they just put them on the higher end american cars. Why not put a part you already have plenty of onto the cars kind of thing.
