Whining alternator

My alternator has been whining, loud enough that I can hear it inside the car. It almost sounds like the engine is supercharged! Bearings? All electrical items are working fine. Are there better alternators out there or should I just run down to Napa or Autozone and get a rebuilt?

Mine does the same thing... Although the way you describe yours, it sounds worse than mine. I think I have read somewhere that if you get it rebuilt it goes away. I really don't think its anything to worry about unless it is infact that loud and annoys you that much. Mine only gets real loud at just above idle on a hot day after the car is at full temperature. Other than that, its almost non existant.

As cool sounding as it may be (ha ha) I just don't want it to seize up on me and snap my belt. I need some $ and of course time. :roll:
