does anyone know how to do it without having to go to a shop. i know you park really close to a wall on a level or close enough surface and use tape to mark where you lights are and stuff but from there getting them aligned right its out of my reach.

Do you have basic tools? cuz on my '98 BD, it only takes a 12mm socket and racket to adjust up or down, left or right.
and you park on a level surface, 25 feet away from a wall.

And at least a 3/4 full gas tank.

Dunno if there's a technical reason, but that's what my owners manual says.
It might be something to do with even weight distribution.

It's weight distribution. Gas weighs a lot. I think a full tank is 150lbs or something like that.
