What do you all think of Axxis break pads and rotors?
www.wholesaledirectparts.com (http://www.wholesaledirectparts.com) I was looking at the 2002 Legacy GT LTD break pad and rotor package for $291

I just put Axxis pads on my wifes '03 Impreza RS and they seem to be working great.

i've got axxis ultimates right now. They seem to work well, and after having faded and smoked like a fire the first time i took them out for a bit of abuse, they've held up admirably. I usually get about 15k out of a set of pads, and these are at 20k. Maybe a bit of dust, but my brake setup chews through pads in town.

I reccomend them.

what about slotted and drilled rotors made by axxis?

sold rotors are the most efficient, unless you auto-x, or drive in situations where brake fade is a problem.

so drilled and slotted rotors are a bad idea? I would really just be getting them for the look. ANd the extra breaking power too. I think they would look good with 17" ADR M Sport wheels.

What is this mythical "extra braking power" you speak of? On cross drilled and slotted rotors, there is less surface area being contacted by the pads. Which means less grip, which means less braking power. The only reason you'd need slotted or drilled is if you have problems with the brakes getting hot real quick and causing brake fade. Those channels and holes are to get rid of heat quicker, nothing more.

I seem to have touched a nerve. Like I also said i think they look cool. That would be the main reason.

I seem to have touched a nerve.

Nah, you didn't. I was just trying to cut through a myth with 'zing' ;)

But I wouldn't do anything as important as brakes for looks. If you want good looking brakes, clean and paint your calipers.

Well I think that $331 for slotted and drilled rotors and brakes pads is a good deal. At least i think so. Plus as a bonus it will look cool. And I have already painted my calipers red so it will look even better. if that is even possible!

do you have a suspension set up? if not, dont buy the breaks and spend that $331 and get some springs and struts. You'd be better off and people will notice more the stance of your car, then the brakes. Do you really notice brakes if your driving?

They're not BREAKS - they're BRAKES!

I will reiterate. Good Brakes are the single best modification you can do to a car-maybe besides tires, it's close, but having stopping power is very important.

Oh, and BTW, I think solid Brembo rotors are cheaper than slotted or cross drilled.

Do you really notice brakes if your driving?

Um, YES, you do! Good Brake feel is a great feeling! It means you have the power to stop quickly, your car is more agile in a big way! Safety!

speaking of nerves being touched...

I dunno, this thread kinda makes Baby Jesus wimper...

x-drilled rotors were used back in the old race car days of organic brake pads; the pads themselves would gas at high temps, creating a slick surface on the rotor surface. the holes were meant to help the gas escape the pad and keep the rotor clean. Slots do the same thing except with dirt/rocks, etc, usually associated with rough terrain (think rally).

Oh yeah, you don't need x-drilling for today's ceramic and semi-met pads...when they fade they tend to recover back to full strength once cooled. The holes in the Mercs, Porsches, Ferrari's, etc. are there more for looks and tradition, rather than any performance gain btw.

I have both x-drilled and slotted rotors in the front...though not really by choice (needed rotors quickly before I moved for school, only ones I could find at a decent price).

To be honest, if you're just driving them on the street, they won't crack or break like some of the horror stories people post.

I've put a season of autocross and rallycross on mine and they've held up decently. The whirring sound when I stop while the brakes are cold are little annoying...cool for some, but maybe I'm just getting old ...
