I am looking for a Cold air intake for my 2002 legacy GT. Any one know where I might find one?

i purchased an injen CAI for my 2001 legacy GT from boxer4racing.com
i believe any MAP-based impreza intake will fit. i.e. the Cobb intake, the weapon-R short ram, any of the J pipe shaped ebay intakes for MAP, or make your own.

imprezas were MAP based starting in 2000 I believe, and switched back to MAF sensing for 05 or 06.

And you had no fitment problems? I see that boxer4 only has one injen CAI was that the one you bought? Did you see a difference in HP or torque. I have a KA Power short ram intake now and I was wondering what the CAI would do for me

See the DIY section? HFSDevil's little intake mod. It cheap, easy for an exhaust shop to do (yes, I said exhaust) and eliminates half the restriction in a stock intake.

I have already removed the airbox and have a short ram intake in place. I was interested in what sort of gains I might see with a cold air intake.

IS the 2002 Impreza and 2002 legacy have the same set up engine wise/air intake? In other words will a cold air intake that works on a 02 impreza work on a 02 legacy?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Impreza stuff has always been compatible. But I'm not so sure about the bugeye imprezas. I'd imagine it has remained that way.

Impreza stuff works just fine.

Go with a simple Ganzflow style intake. Straight tubing, panel filter. No bling pod, cleans up the engine bay and makes working on stuff easier.

The cheapest I found a COBB intake was $281 shipped. Is the Ganzflow cheaper because I'm guessing the COBB intake is overpriced..

The Ganzflow is different to the Cobb - with Cobb you pay for the name as much as the "research".

For that one yes. You talk about "CAI" like there's only one kind. The stock intake on the BE is technically a CAI because it takes air in from the grille area (sort of a RAM air system). There are other variants as well, some with cone filters on the end, but I like that ganzflow one, it looks like a good design.

BTW- Huffer, cobb has stopped making their N/A CAI, they're almost exclusively turbo parts now, so that's the only known remaining design like that now...

My bad - but I'm not the sort of poster that witholds info. If I had the info sitting on a photobucket account or something I would have posted it.

Then again, perhaps I like seeing who will actually bother to do some sit down research, and thinking... :wink:

i was told CAI is not a good idea. I used to have a CAI on my gsr and i was very scared of rainy days especially sometimes the pkwys around here get flooded...if that happens you better drive away from those things. I know a person who had CAI on his car...and it guzzled up water...RIP...his car basically got Fcked. Its not much of a HP gain either. so in my personal opinion...i think its worthless unless u live in a place with nice climate no snow slush and puddles from rainy days and are prepared for major damage...other than that CAI looks cool too.

Just don't go into flash flood areas. Honestly, this CAI isn't much lower than the stock location. I wouldn't drive into those areas regardless of whether my intake was stock or not.

Take into account where the filters are being mounted in some of those CAI setups. Some are mounted right behind the splashguard at the front wheel, or even lower.

Just have a muffler shop bend up a pipe from your air box to the scoop in the front. Clean effective CAI, with a KN panel drop in

the stock intake is a CAI, and its certainly a better design than a short ram. Any design that has the maf (assuming your car isn't map) right behind the filter is gonna be the big suck for drivability. Stock box with snorkus delete FTW.

A 150$ intake is just one way to part the fool from his money, imo.

I agree with scott. The stock intake design (with the inlet above the grille) is a good design.

Seriously, $25 for the KN, $20 for the ebay honda filtered I cut to fit and I got a CAI.
