is it possible and if possible would it give any gains. if not possible what about swapping the intake manifold with a 2.5 would that make it possible.

I'm pretty sure it's the same thing. Same goes for the manifold.

same size and everything? that sucks i was hoping the 2.5 might have a bigger bore.

bubaru21, maybe some more research is needed to check if the throttle body on the 2.5 is larger and see if it's compatible? I'd be inclined to agree with Wiscon_Mark and guess that the manifold assembly is the same on both but would have no idea regarding the size of the throttle body. Swapping it will make a BIG difference though (if it did turn out to be bigger?)

A friend of mine changed the throttle body on his MR2 by lathing the stock one out to make it larger in diamater and while the torque gain was pleasing, engine response was just incredible.

Not cheap though (as it was basically custom) so lets hope the one on the 2.5 is both bigger and a straight swap

I can take measurements of my 2.5 set up if you want. Let me know what you want measured and I will get the numbers for you.

I'll measure my 2.2. I'm guessing (since intakes are all the same for each engine) that they're exactly the same. The air demand for each engine really isn't that much different.

yes please. that would be very helpfull.

we can compare the both and see if it is worth it.

The 2.5 TB is slightly larger. If it's off a Phase 1 EJ25 it should be compatable with a 95+ (OBDII) EJ22. Prior EJ22's used a different TPS and the mount is different. If It's a Phase 2 EJ25 it won't work as the IAC is a stepper motor built into the TB and is entirely uncompatable with earlier engine management systems.

The 2.2 and 2.5 (Phase I or II) intake manifolds are quite different though the Phase I and the EJ22 share most sensors and electronics, the manifold shape is different between the two.

good info, thanks Junior

So do you think it's worth it to swap a EJ25 PI TB in?

if you had one laying around maybe, it's only 2 or 3mm bigger, you probably won't see any SOTP difference. I'm looking for one for my EJ22, but I'm under boost, so it's a little different, plus I'm running ported EJ25 Phase II heads and intake. I had one, but needed to use it on my last engine swap... anyone have one layin around?

very helpfull thank you. i gues if i do go boost ill keep this in mind.
