Hey all,

The tape player on my car worked about 3 weeks ago. Now I can still listen to music cds but the tape player won't take in tapes. It's almost like the tape player is stuck somehow (it must be...).

The only things I can think of that are impairing the tape player are

1) Some sort of stuck part
2) An actual part of a tape still embedded in the tape drive
3) A really gummed up, stopped up, or otherwise broken part of the delivery system that takes the tape in

In any event, I can insert a tape into the drive, but it does not go all the way in (i'd say it goes 3/4 of the way in and then stops). I don't want to force it in, especially if there is some kind of problem like the ones above.

Any ideas? I think I'll be looking at the car tomorrow when I get a chance.

Buy a replacement 2nd hand deck. Cheap as.

PS. Why are you still using tapes?

I have plenty of cds, but there are still a few tapes my wife has. Also, I can play my ipod thru it without having to buy more equipment.

ok, I spent some time working around the cassette/cd area and saw that the fake wood trim can be pulled back to access the cassette and cd electronics. I wanted to see if I could pull the trim off completely, but it's kinda "kept in place" by the cigarette ashtray compartment and the cigarette lighter/power adapter. Has anyone else been successful in removing this compartment to gain access to their electronics?

this has instructions on how to get the radio out. The trim is being held in by two screws in the ashtray area

you have to rotate the whole trim piece clockwise while you pull it out, then unplug the lighter cause you dont get much length on the wires

my tape player works, but only the right side has correct sound levels, thew left side is way too low. anyone know what that could be....time to replace?

edit: i prolly should have said that i have the oem tape deck with the cd deck below it.

i was trying to use my ipod with a tape adapter (brand new) and the left side's sound is incredibly low. i was kinda hoping that i could sell my old cd player from my old car and just keep the factory stuff.......maybe.
