How do you like those WRX brakes?

JMoney
09-16-2006, 10:08 PM
Plays_with_Toys - Thank you! .

Wiscon_Mark - My old ones were pretty shot. I'm just running the stock WRX pads right now, but I've noticed a large improvement in braking distance, and how much less effort I have to push on the brakes to get them to stop me. I think that they are a cheap way to have a little more performance for such a big car. One day I'll find some red 4 pots and upgrade to those.

I also tried the Meguires Strach-X on this wax as a trial run. I'm pretty mixed on the results. I don't think it was worth my money, but I really don't have many large scratches, only chips.

I need to slow down a bit on my car and start figuring out what mods are really going to help this be a great daily driver. The jury is still out on headers/exhaust. If you were going to make it a daily driver would you prefer to have the burble all the time or have it nice and quiet?

Huffer
09-16-2006, 10:44 PM
You need to lose the car bra for photoshoots. And in general. I just hope when you wash you remove the entire thing because your paint will end up with a tan line if you leave it on too long.

Anyway - I would still get headers + exhaust. You can have an understated burble that hints of an animal when you start to get on the go pedal.

Yea, I realized this before I put it on. Having it on "protects" what's left of the OEM coat. It has plenty of years of abuse on her and I'd like to prolong the paint in the front. I know that some of you might not agree that this is the best way to do it, but it was certinly the cheapest and the smartest vs. putting on a clear bra which would be covering shitty paint. In time I'll repaint it, lose the bra, and the sunroof windguard, but for now they stay. :smt045 .

I have a 4 year old 4.0 megapixel Gateway thing. I suck at cameras and this one has settings and junk on it. I just want to point and click and get the best pics ever. Apparently that never happens.

Adding pic of my lovely clean interior.

I've heard that repainting Rio Red will look funky not having the rest of the car repainted along with it. True/False anyone?

Plays_with_Toys
10-16-2006, 02:04 AM
If you paint something, its usually best to match the paint on the car, and not the paint code because of sun fade, and other stuff that diminishes paint.

I think with metallic paints, it also depends on the angle the paint is applied. If you apply it at different angles (that the part is sitting at), the paint will settle different, so its best to have the part in the stance it'll have on the car (so hood flat and not hanging).

What is missing is the ABS sticker.

Oh, it must be the BEs where they leave the brakelight there whether you have a spoiler or not.

Are you supposed to have head rests in the back? I know my wagon doesn't have any (but it's also a 95).

How much you pay for those BBS's.. they look great on your car. What size are they / do you have a drop?

edit : wow i just noticed.. u dont have them on anymore! Oh yea.. i like the black.. but GOLD would look much hotter man! Gold + red = awesome. White may look good too.. but nah, too much of a bitch to clean.

2nd edit : DAMN DAMN DAMN those looked hot silver. HOT DAMN i need to get some!

also.. why does it look like your projectors have 2 projectors in them!?!

I might go with gold one of these days. If I do gold though, they're probably going to be STI wheels or P7s.

It's the reflection of the projector against the reflective housing. :-)

I'm sure color-coding the skirts and painting the brake calipers would help.

Get some shots at a different time of day and use a better compression program (the picture looks jaggedy), and the gloss black might look better.

I think white will be the hotness, but if I paint them and it falls through, I can always switch.

Wow, lookin' good. I'd kill for some BBS's right now. The V7's are a bit heavy for autocross duty.

True that on the V7's! I love the wheels, and thanks for the kudos guys!

I just met JMoney for the first time tonight and let me be the first to say that his car is sex on wheels. I the paint looks like its dripping off in person too. I finally got my front end finished and Im hoping that the two of us can go get some sick pics taken with his sweet camera. Keep up the good work J.

Your car is beautiful! The stance is amazing and your mod list is very tasteful. I am in the market for a Legacy GT (considering a '97 LGT right now) and yours is exactly how I would want mine to look! Keep up the good work!

Haha I know, I was wondering that too. New paint would be so hot, but I could never justify that kind of money on just a new paint job. Oh well :-(

JMoney

I paid around 1500.00 for the paint. It's a good job for the money. not perfect by any means, but it made it look great and got the little things fixed that bothered me.

nice.. $1500 isnt bad at all! i dont know why so many people bitch about MAACO.. ive actually seen some pretty damn good jobs come out of their shops.. and its usually all about the prep work anyways.. so if you do it yourself.. your good to go.

also.. meant to ask you.. what type of rims are those that you were running before the gold ones.. JDM something or the others? i like those. Also what size / size tire you running on them? Any rubbing?

JMoney

B4 wheels. 224/45/17 tires. They did rub unless you have camber bolts in the rear.

Thanks fellers. I'm running Gr2's with Eibachs and Ingals camber correction bolts in the rear.

So Leggy Spec GR2's with WRX or GC Eibach springs? Sorry, I love the stance of the car, I want somthing similar so I just wanted to know your exact setup. How is the ride quality and handling? I was thinking of going with GR2's and Leggy Specific H&R Springs.

JMoney

Both springs and struts are car specific.
