Ok, so, I drove my friends STI the other night and have been playing with the idea of getting one. Then I started thinking about how hard it would be to make my '04 Outback anything near that kind of performance. I atleast want looks. He told me he had gotten a Jet Performace Chip upgrade a couple years ago on his Honda and he said he could really see/tell a difference. I started looking at it and its about $400 dollars for me to take it out and send it to them. Has anyone done this or known someone who has? I just didnt know if it was really worth it. He said for the money it is worth it, what does the SLI crowd think?
Thanks

How many o2 sensors has he gone through?
Sure you can get a chip, but your car will run like crap if you run it for a long period of time. It makes the car run super rich, cutting down on mileage and it fries the o2 sensor, which complicates things further...it can also foul up the sparkplugs.

Are you sure you're talking about the same thing here? This sounds like a chip modification center, not one of those resistors. I know in my dad's audi S4 a chip send in is good for 50-60 horsepower, but then again thats a twin turbo'ed motor.
I haven't read anything about the company "Jet", however, lots of people do ECU retunes after they've modded other components to accomodate a better fuel/air map. Its not so much a mod itself (unless the car has been de-engineered for reliable power, like the audi), however, it increases the effectiveness of the surrounding modifications (air, exhaust, cams, etc...).

right, Jet is a company than remaps you ecu, not like one of those eBay solder in things. They've been around for a long time.

So, its not all that great? All the mustang guys back it up, but, then again, pony kids would stand by anything. Just check it out if you could. http://www.jetchip.com/products.asp?pid ... odel=64#64 (http://www.jetchip.com/products.asp?pid=14478&make=46&model=64#64)

You like that? I was in Grand Junction, Colorado and stoped there. Funny part is my last name is Johnson. So, yeah, Jet, i dont know, i travel alot with work, but i want to do performace stuff, so, i dont know. I also know that I still have a warranty. Which I dont know if that would hurt at all. But, i do know that The Subaru dealers here in Georgia dont know anything when it comes to these cars!

Do you think that this thing is worth it. I mean, i do drive longer distances, but I want more horse power, though i am planing on a cold air intake, headers, muffler, ya know, the standard. Do think there will be adverse affects from doing these types of mods and then to top it off with a computer upgrade?

Honestly, I'd go and ask over on nasioc in the NA forum. I've not heard of this company, but they'd be able to tell you the best ECU tuning to do. Especially someone like matt monson.

Okay, I'd just only heard them synonimously with the resistor junk on eBay. I guess the resistor auctions were trying to sell those pieces off as Jet chips.
Still, I wonder if they have Subaru maps (besides WRX anyways).

I don't see why there is so much hassle with reprogramming the ecu on our cars. On a N/A motor a chip is usually only good for about 5-10 hp (turbo motors are mostly telling the computer to hold a higher boost) I had a chip in my old VW and it made a world of difference. All it was though was a new engine map for premium fuel, but it made a world of difference.

Used PP6 will probably be a better idea...but it IS more expensive, especially if you dyno tune...
