Annoying drone sound

So I did plugs/wires and PCV valve this afternoon. While I had the intake out, I removed the plastic piece infront/ontop of the passenger side headlight. I also removed the plastic piece that has 3 white plastic screws that is attached to the air box.

Put everything back together and now I have this annoying drone sound coming from somewhere around the intake box. I checked all lines, everything is plugged in. Now there's this vacuum line that plugs underneath the intake tube after the MAF that attaches to this sensor I believe of some sort thats attached to the throttle body.. (it's right below the PCV vavle) if I squeeze that vacuum line with my fingers, the drone sound goes away.. if I rev the engine, it goes away.. but when its idling, its there and apparent.. help me out and get rid of it!:-(

I fixed it.. I replaced that plastic circle piece in teh airbox and the noise went away.. I'm guessing it has to be with the way the air flows.. hmm.. odd subaru, odd :roll:

It was so annoying.. like vvrr-vvrr-vvrr-vvrr or maybe it was a RRR-rrr-RRR-rrr-RRR.. hmmm.. anyhow, its gone now!! :lol:

Im experiencing this too when i did the snorksectomy.
and that plastic piece in the air box you're talking baout is white round piece right?

I had that on my BD after the snorkusectomy (only at idle). It is caused by the "flex" portion of the intake tubing. You could get the cheap ebay intake to take care of that problem.

EDIT: Wait... are you talking about the box that sits on top of the throttle body on the 2.5l's? If so, then I'm not sure about that noise. I had the 2.2 in my BD...

yes sir! It's also on an angle, I put that back in and voila, drone sound gone!

Yeah, your problem was with the plenum, not the snorkus.

I didnt take that piece out, i left that in there and its still that dronin sound :lol:

It is caused by the "flex" portion of the intake tubing.
Ever blow through one of those "ribbed" plastic straws? :wink:

When I squeezed this vaccum line, the drone sound went away.. so I'm assuming that if you can re-route it or fidle with this, it will go away.. try squeezing it and see if it works

That's your idle air bypass, don't cut that off.

not cut it off.. just squeeze it a bit to restrict some air flow.. I was trouble shooting and that made it go away so I thought I was on to something :oops:

IAC reads zero volts (fully closed) when you the throttle is open. So if you hear the sound while driving, it isn't the IAC valve.

No, he said it was only at idle. But that doesn't mean it's 100% proof positive it is the IAC valve.
