you can build the 22b engine:
I'm pretty sure it's 'just' the ej22t short block w/ej20t heads. Put the 22 in 22b. Legacy engine represent!

from what i recall the 22 in 22b has nothing to do with the 2.2L displacment. i'm 99% sure, it's actually fairly complicated.

Well, it is an EJ22T. I'm pretty sure it's more than just heads. After all, it gets 350HP from stock.

here it is...

22b is the hexadecimal (base 16) of 555, the ex-rally sponsor.

2x16x16=512

2x16=32

B=11, add 'em up = 555

TAA DAA!

EDIT: i found this also, if you really want the whole deal 'n all...

Woah, good call on that.. Subaru couldn't have done this as a coincidence though:
"The engine was bored out to 2.2 litres, retaining the same stroke as the stock 2.0 litre engine" -same article

Wow, a lot of misinformation here!

The 22b IS a 2.2l. It isn't an ej22t though. The 22b motor is an ej22g, dohc. The ej22t is sohc. It's also a phase II block instead of a phase I block like the ej22t. The ej22t has oil squirters, the ej22g doesn't. The ej22t has forged internal except the pistons, which are molly coated cast. The ej22g is completely forged internals. They are both closed deck.

The ej22g is it's own beast, it isn't a punched out 2.0l or a refitted ej22t. It's more like a 2.2l RS-RA motor.

I've had the pleasure to see the only street legal 22b in the US in person. I have pics too if anyone is interested.

I'm interested in pictures, yes. I've also got a video about it somewhere around here...

Oh, and that video is pretty cool. Pretty dated though. :)

ADAM at Z-1 performance is a tool. I helped part out a car that they "tuned". It was f-ed up big time. They did a really piss poor job.

Yep, Matt has the right information.

You all should know Kevin Thomas in that video also. He's pretty famous on NASIOC, as well as owning a couple XT6's, and having his own name on xt6.net.
