Just a question. It seems that of recent months, my door belt mouldings(aka the black strips at the top of each door on the outside) have been deteriorating and have gotten nice and sticky :x Anyway, i dont use any harsh cleaners when washing or cleaning the windows. I cant really understand what would cause them to get all tarry. Subaru wants like 60 bucks for each moulding. Thats like $250 for all four doors, and frankly i could spend that money on better things. Im probably going to just use some blackout tape to cover them up for now. Has anyone had this problem or know the cause? thanks.

What car do you have?

Cause is probably just the sun and time of year. Mine are getting that way too. My friend took some Electrical tape and covered it, but the tape shrank!

Im thinking another way would be to get some of that rubber tool handle stuff and coat them. It would definitly last, dont know how easy or good looking it would be

Mine actually went the opposite way. because of all the cold winters, the adhesive holding it on detriorated and they started sagging. I'd imagine you could find a better price at one of the subaru OEM parts places.
