Hi Guys,

I purchased a 99 Legacy L 30th Anniv wagon last January and loved the way it handled in New England snow. I'm looking forward to the first Nor' Easter of the winter! One thing though: the car did not come with fog lights (how can that be  ) and the fog lamp assembly kit has been discontinued, if the dealerships know what they are talking about.
Hope I can find somebody who want to sell theirs.

Cheers
Sccoter

Welcome!

Do you have snow tires? If not, get some and you'll be 10x happier in the snow.

I think the previous owner took the fogs off, I'm pretty sure they're standard on the 30th anniversary. But they shouldn't be discontinued either, that sounds weird. Look around on Ebay, you might find some stock ones, or you could get JDM fogs which put out a lot of light. Lee did an install DIY thread:

I was told it was discontinued also, for the pre-facelift anyway. The best they said they could do is get each individual part.

Ebay would yield a cheaper set of foglights anyway. I would suggest looking around on there. Should be able to find a set from $50-150 depending if you go USDM or JDM. And yes, these cars are alot of fun in the snow!

Hi! Subies rule in the snow! One of the things I plan to do this winter is to take a picture of all the cars in the parking lot at Mt. Baker (my home ski area)(awesome). Subaru's always outnumber any other brands up there.

Thanks everyone for your welcome and your input. I was impressed by Lee's thread on the JDM foglights installation. Unfortunately I don't think I have this kind of skills and will probably have to go with something more straightforward like the stock model. I was quoted $365 by SubaruParts.com for all individual parts (fog lights, bulbs, switch, relay, brackets, clip, nuts, washers + shipping). Almost twice as much as the $175 the assembly kit used to sell for so I guess I will follow your advice and look around on ebay for awhile.

BlueMan0312: I live in Boston and frequently drive to New Hampshire and Québec to hit the ski trails.

the car didn't come with foglight. they came with driving lights. the patterns are significantly different.

look up your local regs. some places require you to have foglights covered on public roadways. most times the cops won't care, but it'd kinda suck to come across a stickler or newbie who's trigger-happy.
