Has your Legacy been through hell and back? How about a minor fender bender?

Well, prove it! Post up the not-so-good times you and your beloved have gone through....

I don't have pics, or any damage I don't think, but right after my girlfriend dumped me a month or so ago I did a mean run through the twisties back in DC. I set the fastest time I've ever set in my life, and I got quite a bit of air multiple times. That run is a big reason my tires are as bad as they are haha.

i recently got some damage from a tire coming apart and a piece of debris hitting my driver side headlight area. pics will have to wait until after work.

Funny you should mention this....

So I'm driving to Costco. There's a Canada Goose on the side of the road just hanging out. I keep an eye on him and as usual he just ignores me and I drive by.

For those of you who don't know what one looks like. They are literally the size of a turkey and weigh around 35lbs.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2006/10/goosecanadalg3-1.jpg

Well a split second later two of his buddies on the grass who I didn't see decide to get up and fly across the road. I only have time enough to hit the brakes and BAM ! I nail one of them with the front end of the car. He bounces off like a beach ball and lands on the other side of the road, flutters for a few seconds and is gone.

Now that he's out of his misery I'm thinking...HMMM, I wonder why damage that will cause to my car ? Pull into a spot at Costco and have a look :

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/

Bastard ! Well what should I expect when I hit a flying 30lb turkey at 80km/hr ? On the bright side this light was broken anyways and I'm glad I didn't already replace it, I just about bought one on Ebay two weeks ago. Well, now I need to look for another grill as well. Swell.

So, if anyone has a grill for a '95-99 Legacy guess who could use one...

Heh, I 'd like to hear the road rage story.

Just last night I hit a 'coon myself. Busted off my pasenger side plastic-would-be foglight plug. I went back and found it today but one of the mounts is broken :-( Now I want JDM fogs but I don't have the cash. I need headlights too, the angle screws are busted on mine and I can't see animals too well when they're aimed at the ground

I siliconed around the broken sections to ensure no leakage.

About a month after this happened my wife backed her 04 nissan quest into her dad's truck bumper, puckering the corner of her bumper... and if that wasn't enuf, about a month ago I was doing some work at a friends house with an excavator (I'm a heavy equipment operator), it was about 8pm and I was hurrying to finish up...well I caught the cab door on the side of the dumptruck and put a small hole in the door. It being a rental and all, they want the machine back in the same condition it left. New door=$3,000.00!!!
No joke. So, incase you're wondering why my car, bike&house haven't been fixed, I'm waiting till the damaged door sells on ebay.

Yeah, i got a good story about getting banged up...

So i'm driving along on a STREET travelling forward at 50km/h when out of NOWHERE something hits me in my rear quarter panel.

Guess what?

Some stupid kid had climbed into her parents vehicle (WHILE it was running) and released the ebrake... the rest, is well, a big dent in my car.

So, damage tally

Rear quarter panel
Rear bumper mold
Rear Stripes
Rear gas tank release thingy

Total Repair cost : 3054$ ... heh, good thing the kids parents footed the bill, otherwise i'd be angry, i'll post pics as soon as i know how to upload em and where to?

Photobucket.com is your friend for pics

The only damage to the subie was hitting a rock while mud running and knocking a manifold bolt loose, which in turn fried a gasket. No visual damage, but my car sounded horrible for a couple days.

I caught an older S-10 in the passenger side door @60km/H when he ran a stopsign. I guess those side impact door beams work. That kind of impact, and no intrusion into the passenger compartment - not too bad.

I wasn't too upset at the time, 'cause it looked like the only damage was the door itself, I was able to drive away, and he didn't damage my Rotas  . But when I went to a body shop and ripped the door open, I found out the door frame mounting points on the body at the front and rear of the door were also damaged - slightly pulled towards the center of the door. No problem to put them back into shape though - as good as new. As for insurance - I didn't care, my insurance never found out about it - it was all him. I just had to deal with a Ford Fusion rental for a few weeks  .

Well, there's the time I hydrolocked my engine and bent/cracked a rod and a few valves. I drove around like that for about 300 miles before it finally spun and punched a nice hole in the block, right where the "EJ22" plate sits.

http://www.jeyping.dynip.com/blowupt.jpg

http://www.jeyping.dynip.com/hole.jpg

http://www.jeyping.dynip.com/ej22.jpg

So I used that as an excuse to replace the stock engine with this:

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/

Of course, I needed a hood with a hood scoop so I bought a carbon fiber hood from Ion Performance. That worked great until it separated from the frame on the highway.

let's see... so far this summer, my buddy simon ripped the front bumper cover off with his jeep (note to self: don't play bumper cars unless you are in bumper cars), punctured the a/c condenser on a fallen tree while 4wheeling (tall grass=poor visibility), destroyed a factory crank pulley (crank key broke and rounded out the pulley), dents from hood sliding, missing hella from friend hood sliding (that one has since been replaced), lost the muffler offroading....

i think that's about it. don't really have any pics of most of it...

Posting in this thread should tell me how bad I need to control my temper :-(

I'd say my car's been through more hell than anyone else's.

So, a few years ago, I was REALLY pissed off about something, and I entered a 90ยบ left-hand turn at a light, and stomped on the gas, in the rain. Learning very quickly that AWD does not prevent spinouts , I slid my front bumper across a parked car. About 6 months later, tired of seeing the big scratch across my front bumper, I bought a new one and had a body shop guy at the Toyota dealer I was working for at the time, paint my front bumper for $75 on the side. Of course, he didn't scuff the bumper before painting it... and all the paint chipped off, resulting in a black front bumper. :-(

Next, I also learned that taking corners at speed with a heavy object rolling around in your trunk is NEVER a good idea. I tried to get through a green left arrow, and dove into the corner, and when I heard a loud THUNK behind me, I knew exactly what happened. The remote battery starter I was carrying around flew into the side of the trunk, and put a nice reverse dent that cracked through the paint in my right rear quarter.

Then, after getting really pissed off at the car when I was doing the wheel bearings on it, I smashed that same rear quarter in with the handle from my floor jack. I tried painting over it later just to keep the bare metal from rusting, but it turns out there was also bare metal exposed right by the taillight that I didn't see, so now that it's fairly rusted, I'm just gonna replace that whole quarter when I get the car painted.

But... I'm not done yet. Just recently, when I went to change my steering rack and one of the bolts broke off in the crossmember, I smashed my front left fender in with my own bare fist.

You can see all this carnage in the recent pics taken of the car at the Subaru Challenge last month:

So, this just happened. Don't worry the panda is fine.

I was coming out of a strip mall, at a light, and it was green. I wanted to make the left so I didnt have to wait, and was rolling up to it about 35-40. I didn't notice however, the HUGE dip, then large speed bump type asphalt raised portion with a manhole, then another dip, then the intersection.

Long story short, I ended up jumping my GC about 15 feet, over hte second dip, and screeching through the intersection haha. I also took the manhole off, I don't know how. Just jacked the car up, no damage underneath, only a small scratch on the subframe that I sprayed with some black rustoleum.

Who puts that there? What parking lot designer said "yea, that looks fine." and didnt paint it yellow, or put up a sign, or anything??

Got into a little hairy fender bender today, and didn't know if starting a new thread would be best so I revived this fairly suitable one.

Got distracted and late braked into a older bmw today, no damage to his car naturally but my BD loves being tortured.

My radiator upper support bar is more toast than it was before, and got more twisted, the hood is a little tented, but i can flex that out for now.

Questions are, my bumper reinforcement bar took a bend near the middle so my right headlight is tucked inwards and got pushed a little more inwards so that a grille no longer fits inbetween. The bumper cover is fine, but I dont know if bending the reinforcement bar back into shape is possible. I still have my old bumper cover and bumper bar from my GT before i picked up Shane's old one, which was from an outback. CAN I take off the rear reinforcement bar section [where the fogs and stuff screw into] and attach that as well as my current bumper cover to my old GT one and be good? and is replacing the radiator upper support bar a direct bolt in type thing, cus there are sites selling new OE ones cheap,

i.e - http://www2.partstrain.com/store/?N=0&N ... d=nu173rj2 (http://www2.partstrain.com/store/?N=0&Nr=AND%28make:Subaru,model:Legacy,year:1999,brand:Replacement,part:Radiator+Support+Tie+Bar%29&ptc=S1171391678W45d204bec356b&ptid=pt5347791754ad1e16aad1a3&id=nu173rj2)

Can i also manipulate my fenders a bit if they got bended?

I'll try to get pics up tomorrow, I just don't have the patience for it right now.

Hopefully. Nobody in St. Louis ever admits it's their fault when they drive stupidly, but there was a witness and what happened was very clear. But the real question is how much is a 95 Legacy w/ 189k miles worth to the insurance company (even though it has an STi motor swap)? They will probably total it out.

WRX steering wheel sounds nice, but really after that experience I have no desire to have airbags in this car again. May just cut the airbags out and leave it. Or install a nav system in it's place

Oh crap Jey, is this the new wagon or the old one??

The new older wagon  The 95 that I more recently acquired.

Fireman's Fund is the worst insurance company ever. Got back in town, had to call them cause it's been 9 days and I haven't heard a thing. I should charge them $30/day to store an undriveable car in my driveway like they do at the towing companies.

They did not seem to indicate that it is totalled, which I find shocking given that the radiator support is out of whack and the condensing unit is probably damaged. Of course they probably didn't even check for that cause they determined the damage without even asking me for the keys to get into the car. Then they would have discovered that it's not even possible to open the hood unless you have a tool. So I expect this to be a long stupid process. In the meantime I'll find some time over the weekend to extract the airbags, vaccuum out the car of all the glass, and get the windshield replaced so I can drive the car again.
