Sylvania Silver Stars suck!

I got a set of 9007 silver stars from ebay and they arrived yesterday. I put them in and OMG, hardly any difference and so not worth it. They got "The Look of HID" plastered all over the package.. I know bulbs will never produce the light output of HIDs but I was looking for something a little brighter and these are just that a little brighter. :roll:

Good thing was I didn't pay too much for them, so I'm not completley disappointed but I think i would have been better off with a whiter bulb like an MTEC super white.

Silver Stars are overrated.

I got the turn signal lights and they are really bright amber orange.

They are much brighter than the stock lights that came in either of my Legacy's. They are the best bulbs I have used yet. They are an excellent "bad weather" bulb IMO. I have used many others and can see better with Silver Stars in the rain and snow at night.

I just got a set at the store, and I actually like them. I got the Silverstar 9007 ST / 2 high performance ones.. and they are pretty nice. Dont really have any other bulbs to compare them too though. I heard they werent very good in "bad weather".. which bulbs would be good for heavy blizzards / rainfall?

Why are they so expensive. For a set of 2 PIAA bulbs, its like 2x the cost of the Silverstars?

How do they do as compared to the Silverstars ST/2

PIAA's are over rated.. I have the H3 ION Crystal's in my fog lights and they aren't the greatest, i believe MTEC makes equivalent to PIAA bulbs for 1/4 the price

I have these on my Legacy and they are great I thought. I mean I've never compared them to other bulbs but I've been told they are really bright and I noticed a BIG difference from stock of course.

I beg to differ. The PIAA bulbs are much, much better than the sylvania bulbs in light output and intensity. They just don't seem to last as long for anyone. The Sylvanias may look whiter, but that's because they limit the amount of red and yellow in their light spectrum through use of the blue tint on their glass. If you believe these bulbs are better than a regular halogen bulb, then you're imagining things.

When one of my regular bulbs burned out, I replaced them with Sylvania Silverstars. They just took a bad light housing and made it even worse. They look whiter, but I'd rather have crap looking bulbs and be able to see some distance on a dry night, or at all on a wet night.

Skip the $40 at a parts store. They're a waste.

i put a set of silverstars in my projectors and they were alot brighter than plain bulbs IMO. i can see distance wise with silverstars lows just about the same as my birghts with plain bulbs.

I tell people all the time that the PIAA Xtreme whites are better than the Silver Stars. I have the Silver Stars in my Legacy and PIAA Xtreme white on my bike. The best buld I ever owned where a set of Raybrigs, $85 for a pair though.

yea, id rather pay $20 for a set of silverstars, then $65 for PIAA though, because if they only have a "little" more output, then its really not worth the extra $45... especially just for a little more. I might have to try them out sometime, but i doubt it will be anytime soon because of the price. I mean, seriously.. who wants to pay that much for some damn bulbs! lol.. oh wait, people have! :oops:

I have gone through at least a $100 worth of the SHITTY Silvia in my Morettes. They are better then stock but there life span is CRAP!!!

I finally spent the money to get the PIAA bulbs and they are britter and have lasted longer then any of the Silvia bulbs. At one point I was going through a Silvia bulb almost every month but since I got PIAA have had NO PROBLEMS what so ever.

My experance is the Silvia are a waste of money

^ Not necessarily true.. i could go to the store and buy a pair of $150 nike shoes, and they still woulndt last as long as the pair of $40 shoes im currently wearing. Price does not mean quality, and actually that is used as a marketing tool. People jack the prices up, because most people relate "high price" to "high quality".. its an actual psychological study.. i remember studying about it in class.. but eh. For the price, id rather get the silverstars for now.. no need to spend $65 on bulbs! Or i could just really cheap out and get some OEM ones for probably less.. :cry:

People should remember the difference between Osram Silverstars and Silvania Silverstars too. The Osram Silverstars (a Sylvania product) are actually the Halogen Xtravision, which are cheaper and way more effective than OEM or Sylvania silverstars. I've tried both and wish my Xtravisions hadn't burnt out :-?

Most of you guys are using the 9007 were I am using the H1 so maybe that difference in bulbs makes a big difference. With my experence with the bulbs I have spent more money in the long run on Sylvania bulbs then I did on the set of PIAA

Another note, PIAA H3 bulbs came in the car for my high beam lights and I have never had a problem with them since I bought the car. Not one of them has gone out or changed intensity in over 2.5 years

Where can you get the osram silverstars from? Auto parts store, or online only? Never heard of them.. might have to check those ones out next. What is the difference between the Xtravision or what not, and the silverstars st/2 ?

I'm using the H1's for low beam in my BE. They are better than the OE bulbs, though the life span is quite short... I'll have to try the Xtravisions some time...

Tossed in the Hella bulbs, no issues for over 2 years. Honestly, when HID kits are getting so cheap (the set I just put in retails for ~240) wy even bother with expensive aftermarket halogens with reduced visibility and shorter life?
