JDM means Japanese Domestic Market. We like JDM goodies, because Subaru releases better and more exclusive bits to Japan that cannot be found here in the US.

AND HOW!!!
One example: do you know how badly midsize cars would have been owned from '99 to '02 (at least) if Subaru produced those years' B4 or Japanese GT or STi-class Subarus in the USA? Did you know their legacies packed TWIN turbos?
Sick. Positively sick. Just about every mid-size automobile manufacturer south of Audi and BMW would have been caught seriously off-guard. Sheesh, a twin-turbo legacy would have basically been the poor man's M series sports sedan in my book, or at least a nasty SVT-class car.

yeah. the japanese spoil their own and give us junk. They get a lot of the “cool” and performance items that are not available outside japan.
but on the other hand......... people go absolutely ga-ga over JDM tail lights, which are exactly the same as what we get here, except that they are red over white instead of red over amber. stupid way to spend your money if you ask me, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

Hey, I like the cleaner look. If you're going cosmetic, there's nothing wrong with going stock (that looks better).

if the whole tail light assembly was one lense in red, i'll agree with you, but i don't see how having white instead of amber is "cleaner".

2 colors instead of 3.

On the sedan, it makes less of a difference, but that little white rectangle in th e middle of a bunch of amber that doesn't even have any function as an amber light is retarted.

I hate 100% pure red tail assemblies. It's the most retarded and cheap-out way of making a car. Turn and merge signals should be differentiated from brake lights. The way some people drive, they look like they're changing lanes but they're really just braking!

Why do you think the current Legacy's have red/white tails now? Because they know we'll just buy them from someone else anyway.

The new Legacy's are red and white, yes, BUT they are red brake and signals and white reverse lights. BL/BP owners are still going JDM for the amber turn signals

i agree. the whole point of turn signlas is to stand out, and making them the same colour as brake lights just diminishes its effectiveness.

like i said, i cannot understand how that's worth $150 - $200. but again, i've never been one to worry much about how the car looks. i'll spend my $150 on go-fast bits, thank you very much.

Jeep wranglers are the worst. One red light on each side, which acts as brakes, turn signals, AND hazards. I almost rear ended a jeep I thought was pumping the brakes, because hazards take precedence over the brake lights lighting up

Well, I couldn't justify 150-250 dollars for JDM tails either, so I got them for 100

I think it's funny when people think JDM is a company. So dude I worked with at my last job would say that all the time. "Oh I got this "thing" for my car on eBay" me- "Yea, who makes it"? Him- "JDM" me- Yea you said it was JDM, who the fukc makes it"? him- "huh? JDM makes it" so on and so on. It was frustrating talking to him about cars.

USDM - united states domestic market
BD- 95-99 legacy sedan
BG- 96-99 outback with raised roof
BK- 95-99 legacy wagon without a raised roof
BC/BF are the 90-94 legacy wagons/sedans
BE and....? are the 2000-2004 legacys
BP and BL? are the newest legacys.
They are simply the body code, and you can actually find this designation in your VIN (vehicle identification number, stamped on your car).

If you want to get technical, there is no USDM for Subaru... A Domestic Market is where the car originates, since this is a Japanese car, then Japan is the only domestic market for Subaru. Any others are "spec" for that country. So it should actually be US-spec parts, or Euro-Spec. Not USDM or EDM. Just a FYI.
As for the chasis codes, the 2000-2004 are BE/BH and you are correct about the 05+ being BP/BL

since the car is/was made in Indiana, wouldn't the US be its domestic market? LOL!!!! i'm such a riot!

That's silly. That means the cars are all JDM with US-spec parts.
They're not - because the engines in the cars are designed for the market that they're released in.
Subaru America couldn't figure out a way to produce 300hp from an EJ20 AND satisfy EPA regulations, so they dumbed down the GT, RS etc. with EJ25 NA engines.
So if you want to get technical about the car itself, I say the designation originates from the engines that the cars are built around.
If you lift parts from a car made in Japan, built to Japanese spec, those are JDM parts.
