My 98 Legacy L doesnt have variable intermittent front wipers, and its annoying in the rain.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=559808
Ive been reading through this thread and its been mentioned that higher trim models have the variable intermittent wipers, and that they are plug and play compatible.

Apparently 1990-99 Legacies and 1993-97 Imprezas use the same design, and the variable intermittent wipers are on Legacy LS, LSi, GT, as well as 1998-99 OB Ltd.

Please list the year, trim, and if you have variable intermittent wipers!

BTW, top is non intermittent, bottom is intermittent (aka adjustable timing)

This might help you more. It's a feature listed under all models:

Oops, forgot to say VARIABLE intermittent front wipers. My wipers right now have off, low, med, and high settings but Im looking for the stalk that has the dial (which controls the timing on low i believe)

I forgot all about Cars101. They say that the 95-97 LS, LSi, and GT and the 98-99 GT had the variable wipers. Also all the 99's had the wide spray wiper nozzles

Yep, confirms my car.

I don't have variable either.

So the stalks are just plug & play...that's all you need?

I may be looking for one of these, it is really annoying.

96 L, no in adjustability. For wagon owners, apparently WRX wagon stalks have front and rear variable controls, which is nice because the rear wiper is too fast 90% of the time.

My 2000 LGT Ltd. has it. I guess that one reason it weights so much more.

96 GT with, 96 L without - but for 49 bucks, it's cheaper and easier than cruising junkyards to find the setup for my L, thanks for the scoop.

I need to be more observing.

But if I do this, i'll write a new one, his macro photography was severely lacking in focus ;)

Good deal!

I need to find an LSi one, so I can have intermittent front & rear!

I asked for a 99GT, but I forget my reason why.. maybe mentioned in an earlier post, I sent a reply asking if it will fit our 95s though.

That would be a bad idea...the wiring could very well be different (the thread that Lee posted seemed to indicate that there was a change)

Ask about a 95 LSi wagon, will ya? ;)

 you got it

I have to send another reply anyway, I asked for a replacement lumbar support knob for my 03 Legacy driver's seat.. and they quoted me at $89

Superu264

Well because of me Subaruparts.com realized their catolog needed to be updated

The wiper arm from a 95 LSi is $74.32 + shipping.
Part # 83113AC480

..and they still want $70 for the plastic lumbar support knob!

There's no part # so you don't know if it will work in a Legacy, especially depending on what year you have.

It'll work in a Legacy according to the Nasioc thread. But only a 98+ Legacy...

either way it doesn't help me.

Superu- That was an LSi wagon right?

Superu264

I asked for both a sedan and wagon but thats the only # she gave, so I assumed it was the same.

nope, it's on the end of the stalk.

Twists just like the headlight controls on the left side.

Superu264
10-17-2006, 09:24 AM
Well regardless, I asked for both and she only gave me the # for 1 of them, she'll be getting another email.

I sent them 2 emails asking for both the sedan and wagon part #'s and havn't got any reply.. I'm pretty sure they're sick of me asking them for parts and rarely buying any

Shoot them an email, Mark.

yo, I've been looking into this for awhile. (The rear wiper thing)

some wagons have the rear wipe button next to the heated seat button!!!
(next to the e-brake)

I have a photo somewhere?

WHAAAAAAT?!

if one of you wagon guys just wants variable fronts i'll swap stalks since i wanna figure out the variable rear.

i remember reading through that thread (i think at the very end) it said you needed to run one wire to the back and replace the relay for variable rears

Edit, its not variable, just intermittent

On "old skool" wagons, it's also possible to have a [non-adjustable] intermittent rear wiper, but absolutely not cost effective with brand new parts: well over $200. The switch part number is 83113AA530 and the relay in the back should be replaced with intermittent module 86571AA030. On that switch, the knob for rear wiper has an additional detent labelled "INT", otherwise it's the same. It's not fully plug-and-play: the 9-pin connector is still the same but on wagons w/o intermittent rear wiper there's no extra wire for intermittent unit in the on-board harness, that is only 8 pins are utilized.

so much for that.

How about your stalk, David?

you could probably just add a wire to the harness to make it work.
and in response to the original question, yes i have variable intermittent wipers on my '98 Legacy GT
