So I have a bad engine... :( It's running and driving, but there are problems with it. It has a slight rod knock between 2500 and 3000 rpm's and it's blowing smoke everytime I press the gas. I also go through 2-3 quarts every 2 weeks. I've replaced the PCV valve and thought that fixed the problem, but apparently not... Later today I'll be checking the spark plugs and later this week I'm getting a compression test done, but anyone have an engine for sale? I'm thinking either a 2.2 motor like the one I have now or a 2.5 motor. If I had the money I would be in the hunt for a WRX motor, but unless anyone wants to donate one to me, that is a no go. Let me know please!

warranty? You just got the car...

Rebuilt or new shortblock would be good options.

What happened to the EJ22T you had a line on? Have you done a compression test? Have your tried running sea foam through it?

When you say rod knock, how are you defining this?

The EJ22T motor fell through. What in the world is sea foam? Troy is going to be doing the compresssion test sometime this week. He was suppose to do it today, but not anymore. When I say rod knock... I say it sounds like knock knock knock etc etc.

Seafoam is a really strong injector, valve, etc... cleaner. Its like BG44K but 1/4 the price. You run half a bottle through a vacuum line, like PCV or a brake booster while applying throttle (to keep the motor from dying out). It cleans out a bunch. Shut the motor down, let the car sit for 6 hours or so, start it back up and smoke will just pour out as it burns off crap in the engine. Then pour the other half of the bottle in your gas tank.

Awwww ok! I'll look into it. I didn't have the compression test done today because well the guy was too busy...:( O-well sometime this week it should be done.
