View Full Version : My legacy smokes in the rain.. does yours?

When it rains, I always see smoke coming from the front of the engine.. I'm assuming its rain hitting the radiator and its 'steaming' off.. the temperature is in the middle and my coolant reservoir is to the max line.. is my theory correct or should I be worried?

it's probably water from the road splashing up - it heats, converts to steam, and that has to rise.

I always see it when I go through a car wash that sprays the undercarriage.

Saw some today when i had my car all heated up and decided to spray the tires down! Steammmmmm. w00t!

I've never seen it in rain, but tons of times in wet snow... My radiator was packed with snow and was steaming off.

Yeah I see it sometimes in the cold rain, no big deal.

Steam off of hot car parts is great. Especially going into a flooded parking lot. Lovely weather as of late.

me three, i wondered about it often. just went out and sniffed it and found it to be steam.

i hit a big puddle at a slow speed yesterday and steam poured from everywhere including out the hood scoop (i stopped). kinda neat/kinda scary looking.
