Does anybody know the weight of a stock flywheel (EJ 25 5sp)?...and how light can I go and still have good daily drivability?

12-13 lbs is generally the reccomended lighter weight.
I don't know for sure, but I thought the stock one was 18-20lbs.

Don't go less than what mark said, you'll run into driveability issues without a sturdy EM solution. Stick to 12-15 pounds. I like 15

Stock is 25lbs I think. At least for WRX's, I would imagine it's in that neighborhood for NA cars as well.
Ditto on the 12-15lb flywheel.
I've had the 9.5 lb Fidanza flywheel for 3 years now and it's just been lovely. I don't think you have to be afraid of going light.

Thanks a lot for your advise, I appreciated....looks like ACT Streetlite would be a good choice, It weights 13.9 lb and is available for around $200. Jay says that 9.5 lb is acceptable, but he drives Turbo. I wonder if that makes any difference?

I've had the flywheel both with the stock 2.2 engine and the new turbo hybrid engine. It worked BETTER with the stock engine - I'm not sure if the light flywheel combined with the lighter crankshaft or something is causing the above-average level of NVH on my current setup.

Thanx Jay...already got the flywheel, I let you know next week, how it works in my Legacy.

The car we had problems with the 9lb one on was an 05wrx, maybe NA motors can get away with less. I ran that ACT flywheel when I had my BD and liked it.

I would think a light one would affect a turbo less than an N/A considering the turbo's power is that much greater, making the rotating mass less significant to the revving of the engine.

The amount of energy the engine has to put out to spin a flywheel of a certain weight is the same, turbo or NA. Before the turbo spools, its all the same.

Exactly ;)
It takes the same amount of energy, but a turbo engine puts more out, so it's less noticable on a turbo engine (assuming you're actually using the turbo).

The 9lbs flywheels seem to be the limit with reducing the mass of the thing...some people throw codes, some don't. Hence why most stick with the slightly heavier ones to play it safe.
Also, don't buy lightened pulleys or underdrive pulleys when you go with the new flywheel. You'll throw a code as well (I forgot if there was something else bad that happens when you do this, but oh well).
