Hey all,

My wife will need to have her gallbladder taken out sometime in the next three weeks or so (her gallbladder does not have stones, but it is failing, simpy not doing its job anymore).

From what she's told me, she doesn't know if her job offers her short-term disability. She works in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, and we are trying to figure out whether or not companies that issue payroll checks to their employees (like her job, where she gets a payroll check every two weeks) are required by law to provide their employees with disability.

What have some of you heard, or what have your experiences been, with getting disability benefits in companies that appeared to not have short-term disability for their employees?

Somebody very close to me has also had this done a few years ago, they did not miss but a few days of work, disability should not really be an issue. I know it was not in our case, just some sick days.

Hope the operation goes well

One of the biggest problems with my wife's line of work (daycare) is that even though she may heal up somewhat in a few days, if she goes back to work, she'll have to do lots of lifting and carrying of kids (maybe even during fire drills as well).

If she gets a "three-point" removal surgery (what I hear is a less invasive removal style), she'll still have either stitches or staples, and lifting is going to be an almost absolute no-no.

That's why she might have to stay longer at home.
