Well driving home earlier today my car decided to die on me. The car starts and idles for a good 3 seconds and then dies. To make it even better you give it gas and it dies much quicker. Now the car has been blowing blue smoke aka burning oil (for example, I put 4 quarts of oil in about 2.5-3 weeks ago and checked it today... it was almost empty) for awhile and I was going to get a compression test done, but I nor did my buddy the mechanic have time... so no compression test. To add even more information I have been having slight "rod knock" or slapping when starting up the car and at certain rpms. Talking with a few friends it sounds like I blew one or more piston rings. So I guess it's time to upgrade... :-?

Sorry to hear that! There's a couple junked 2.2 legacy's on craigslists up for parts (they are a couple 90-94 wagons). Might be cheaper to just toss a different engine in (maybe crossbuild between the good parts and the bad). You could maybe even just repair a motor out of a donor car and drop it in. The cost of repairs would be cheaper with a motor out of the car.

Sorry to hear that. That is pretty damn crappy.

I'm looking into doing a frankenstein high compression motor that includes, 2.5 DOHC block, 2.2 heads, 2.2 intake manifold, thicker head gaskets, and Delta Cams.

You should just buy a stage 1 or stage 2 motor from TWE then, and use your busted one as a core charge. ;)

TWE? What company is that? Is stage 1 or 2 na or turbo?

EDIT: Did some research on TWE... I just need to get the car running first before I start upgrading, lol... I have limited funds unless someone wants to donate parts to me...

Who the flip owned this before you did?

Seriously, they must've beat the hell out of the engine to get it running this bad for you...

should it be the other way around for the headgaskets? i mean, i heard people use the dohc heads w/ej22e bottom end for turbo since of the lower compression? so wouldn't you use a thinner head gasket to raise the compression hense, that the thinner gasket raises the compression?

Yes, thinner Headgaskets do up the CR, but I think he's more looking into never blowing a headgasket again ;)
