clunky noise

my car is now making a clunk type noise that does not change pitch with higher RPMs and will stop every so often. the fact it does not change with rpms tells me that the engine internals seem fine. but i am wondering if maybe something else is going like a water pump or something. i checked all my belts they are fine. i did notice a small black hose that pluged directly into my intake manifold had broken, could that be it? i am not sure what that does, but for the mean time i taped it back together until tomorrow when i have the day off and can get that figured out. but maybe someone might have an idea of what is going on here. sorry for lack of detail but i am unsure really what this is or where it is comming from. i did notice though that it seems louder from under the car so maybe something got into my oil pan?? i dont know but hopefully someone here can help me out.

does it happen at idle? Do RPMs affect it at all? Does it happen when the car is moving fast or slow, turning or not? Under acceleration or deceleration? do gear changes make it happen? Or is it completly random.

You probably taped up a vacuum hose. probably not the problem but good thing to fix anyway

constant thing. it happens at idle and stays the same through rpms or at least what i can hear. it doesnt speed up with rpms. i do think it is a drivetrain problem. it is not very loud. infact i really have to listen to hear it. it sounds almost like something is rattling around.

If it was drivetrain it would get faster with speed. Maybe theres a leaf in your HVAC system? thats more of an annoying tick though. Could be your heat shields, but thats more of a fast buzzing/ding sound

ok now it does get faster with rpms not just when i am moving but in park or neutral. and my belts are squeaky so i think it could be a belt and hopefully not the timing belt because if that goes it is taking my whole engine down with it. my 2nd cat is also done for and i need two front axels (blown boots for who knows how long). i know the sound of the axels, that is familar, and the cat wouldnt make this noise would it? the noise isnt that loud near the cat its much louder near the front of the engine so it could after all be either a loose pully or belt. but my belts felt tight so this is just confusing me unless my belt is worn that could be it making that noise, and so the noise could be the belt hitting a worn spot but the noise isnt fast enough to be that. i just dont know?

Sounds like you have multiple problems. Hard to diagnose with multiple things going on.

Suggest you fix the obvious problems like the CV joints, and replace the 2nd cat. Eliminate those noises, then you can track down the other sounds.

i am starting to wonder if i accidentaly got something inside of my TB when i put on my intake. i plan on replacing the cat with a stromung. so that will take time to get money together.but the axels i think are pretty cheap.

ok now i am almost sure the noise is a worn spot on my main drive belt. it took some close listening and observation to get that but it is the only logical thing i can come up with that goes with the squeaky belt.

figured it out. it was the water pump going. so that is being replaced very soon,becuase that is driven by the timing belt and we all knows what will happen if either the belt slips off, breaks, or the water pump goes.
