I'm thinking about going black with my wheels and removing the bra. Can anyone tint my wheels a gloss black?

Im not an expert with PS but I think glossy black would be tough to do, I could do a flat black if you wanted.

This was as glossy as I could get it :-?

I'm painting my BBS's a semi-gloss black now, I'll post some pics when it's done from the same angle so youcan see, too. I think it'd look hot on the red.

It's the effort that counts, and by not doing anything that was enough. :-? .

to be honest, I like the silver better... but that's just me

yea on ur car...silver looks better IMO. How are you painting them? cuz if you are going to spray paint them...i definitely hope you have serious curbage or damage on the rims cuz it wont be worth it.

Using spray cans works out pretty nicely if you do it right.

I like the black wheels. Gold would be better though

Someone do a gold chop!

If I did paint them, it would have to look amazing. I've had black wheels on a black car before and loved it. I do like the silver, but I'm always looking for ways to be different.

Shitty, but it gives you an idea:

The gold does look nice...my preference is still for the silver.

Anyways if you are going to go with the gold...you should trade with someone with gold bbs...instead of spray painting them...i know if you do it right it will come out nice but still factory finish will be better than ruining a MINT looking bbs...IMO.

Agreed. Sometimes you can't beat factory.

I think a pair of the hyper silver or gunmetal rota SDR rims would look pretty hot. I dont think the gold / red match up to well, and neither do the red / black. I think a 'darker' color could look alright, but you still need some shine. So maybe a gunmetal or bronze even.

Ah yes. Gold was what I wanted at first, but it's so overdone on Subarus. I like the look, I'm just not sure if it's to flashy.

I was thinking SDR's but after seeing them on a red LGT I didn't like it that much.

Not the best chop.. but it'll do :

I really look the like of the sdr's on the red lgt personally. Gold is okay.. but i dont think it goes well with a red car.. kinda reminds me of McDonalds for some reason! lol.

complimentary colors I like...silver/gunmetal, black/white, seem to work in general. Silver is the most neutral color, so it'll fit any color pretty much IMO.

Gold only works on subaru's because of their history.

imo, i'm tired of gold. so many subies have it (i know i do too). black is my new fav.

I've pretty much decided on powdercoating my wheels black. I thought about painting them but I want a tougher finish. I know that powdercoating may weaken the wheel, but I don't drive very hard, so I doubt it will be an issue.

My question is; Do you think the powdercoaters will sand down the scratches and curbage on the wheels to get it a perfect gloss black look?

I think they bead blast it, but how much that will get rid of I'm not sure. They need to blast it to get it clean and and to take off the clear coat so that the powdercoat can electrostatically bond with the wheel. It'd be something to ask the powdercoater, though, I imagine if the curbage and such isn't too deep, it will get filled in, and won't need to be taken out.

this is what I'm talking about!

I dropped it like 2" with some over sized rims.. or something

A bit too extreme for me. Bigger rims usually look good on a car, but you can go too big to where it starts to make the car look bad. I'm not sure if its because of the chop or not, but that looks terrible IMO. Wheels are way too big. Besides, it would be crazy expensive and would definetly get some bead damage to the rim with a 1/8" sidewall

+1, there is a place 20 min. from me that will refurbish the wheel as well as powdercoat/paint them. They'll fill nicks and put it in a computerized lathe the will make it 100% true again.

I need to get a quote from them sometime, but i need to figure out the code for the black that i'm squirting the car with so they match.

there is a place in texas that you can send you're wheels too that does the same thing, but it gets expensive if you can't find anyone near by (shipping).

I just called AZ Powdercoaters and they want $35.00 per wheel with a 2 week turn around.

They also won't fix the chips and things. That's not a stupid expensive price, but holy shit, two weeks? It's just sand blasting, chemical stripping, applying the coat and baking it a couple of times.

FYI people with BBS forged wheels. Do NOT have them powdercoated. Do a search in NASIOC and you'll find out why.

They probably wait until they have enough pieces to fill the kiln; it's pointless to have a really big kiln and only do a couple of pieces in there.
