dump valve..does it improve performance

does the dump valve improve on performance or can it cause damage in anyway to the engine in the long run?

ah! Okay, so you're talking BOVs, I wasn't sure.

It's generally accepted that atmospheric BOVs are bad for the life of the engine, and really are only good for track use. You can modify the stock recirculating BOV to accept up to 23ish PSI and it'll work fine.

Does it improve performance? Maybe.
Is it worth it? Definitely not. It really only sounds cool.

there are many other mods that can help a lot more, but as you have the twin turbo, I'm not so sure you should be pushing it much farther than stock. I don't know if that applys the 2000 RSK, but it did to many earlier gen twin turbo engines- they would easily go kaput if you pushed them much.

thanks for the info mark. you are right it does sound cool. plus mine is the 4AET. and pushing the car too much is also true. many people have told me that. so its just once in a while i do it.

Oh, I meant in the modification sense, not the driving sense.

Pushing that sucker to redline once in a while, is not harmful and quite fun.

What mark said. Especially with the 4eat, and a twin turbo setup, you won't want to mess with dumping atmosphericly. If you still want a PSHHH sound, you can get an aftermarket recirc valve. My buddy had one, and it was still noticeable, however not as obnoxious and the car ran way better than when he had a BOV on it.

forgive my ignorance, but what is a recirc valve? is it connected in the same place as a BOV and how complicated is the installation?

A recirculating valve is a BOV, it just doesn't dump to the atmosphere, it recirculates that air back through. Your stock BOV is a recirculating valve.

Yep. Its pretty much just an adjustable version of what comes on the car. I just ordered the turboxs version.
