Okay, another NooB gas question

Hey all,

Is there any real benefit to running 93 octane gas in an NA EJ25 legacy? I have "felt" that the car gets better gas mileage, but I know that one benefit is that higher octane gasoline from certain companies comes with engine cleaners built in (although I could be wrong about this too).

The answer could save me a BUNCH of money (because I do not plan to run turbo on my car, at least not right now or anytime soon).

I'm assuming the EJ25 phase1 (with the lastest HGs) that I have should be able to run on 87 with absolutely no problems at all.

Ok, next question.

My 1998 Legacy manual says I can run unleaded gasoline, octane with an AKI of 87 or higher. If I know now I can run 87 octane gas in my car FO-E-VUH (forever :D hehe), are there any particular brands of 87 octane gasoline I should avoid? (I've always just filled up with 87 wherever I found a pump that worked).

I avoid gas stations for political and economic reasons, but I've not noticed that any one brand is better than the other.

i go to Exxon, Mobil, Sunoco, BP, just nowhere near those never heard the name gas stations.

And yes...its not really necessary to run ur motor higher than 87 octane unless it is stated in ur manual book. also ppl go higher octane if they have engine knocks, turbo cars, or high compression motors.

Our Sunoco in canada has 94 octane!

I fill up at Pioneer, because they give you Pioneer Dollars and over time you can redeem them for gas! Like every dollar you spend you get like 1 cent, so a full tank gets you 50 cents!!

In about 6 months time, I get a free fill up!

Friend of mine took a road trip from NY to Florida filling up at various gas stations along the way. He says sonoco gave him the best gas milage. There are roomers about south american gas companies like citgo and getty having dirty gas.

I buy from whoever has the cheapest gasoline. US gas is crap anyway, even the higher octanes. :lol:

Seriously, unless you're driving something tuned to the nth degree, 87 octane is perfectly fine as long as you do your regular maintenance... fuel filter, for example.

Way too many variables for that to be a scientifically sound theory.

Not denying that i was true, but I doubt it had very much to do with the gas.
