Where do you mount one of these and using what kind of mounting material?
Anyone have any expereince with led kits or illuminated gas kits?

You usually use screws or bolts, and if you live in an area with potholes, say goodbye to them due to road debris kicking up.
I have no experience with them except for the tool that was on the freeway in front of me, and shattered his kit resulting in debris spraying allover my car.
So yeah, feel free to get one, but you won't get any love here.

Not to mention their very high illegality in most states (maybe not alabama, but just about everywhere else).

Youre supposed to mount them behind a sideskirt or something, but on a lot of cars theres no where to hide them so it just looks like crap.

Wow, okay, I didn't want to respond in this thread, because I would've been tempted to say what half (no, more like all) of the people in this thread did.
But knock it off guys. Rob's post was funny, and Lee's and Huffer's were actually somewhat helpful, but if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it.
Having said that, underbody is pretty worthless due to legality, safety, and cost.
I don't happen to dislike interior neons if they're just some nice accent lighting (nothing bright or strobe-like), but that's where I draw the line.

geez...all I asked is how they were mounted and most of what i get is flamed opinions. You can at least try to answer me before you give them......you don't seem to understand that the car scene here is all glowing kits and chrome spinners. There are very few people who do any engine mods around here. Its all about the flashyness.

Why fall in with everyone else?
Being unique is cooler
And I did chide them for mocking you, so don't feel that you have to retort, it never goes anywhere good.

neon's hard to work with on signs.
I could only imagine how hard it would be under a car, to install.

I didn't flame, however, most state's laws state that the only lights you are allowed to have on the outside of your car are, two headlights, two brake lights, forward turn and rearward turn signals, and either two fog lights or two driving lights. All neon lighting must be contained within the car and must not be seen through the windows, and can not visually distract the driver. Outside neon is strictly illegal. This includes the neon windshield wiper nozzles, neon license plate frames, strobe lights of any kind, and underbody kits.
It is not illegal to sell this stuff (thats why you can buy it at target and auto stores) but installing and running this stuff in a non car show environment could get you ticketed.
My friend is running a neon license plate frame on his 2003 buick regal. Not exactly an attention getter. However, from talking with cops, they say they will target people with neon windshield wiper nozzles because it tends to be the "street racing" crowd who does that. Also because green lights on cars are some kind of secret code for a home base for emergency response (my coworker was ticketed for his green nozzles, and this is what the cop said).
It is a large risk running with them, it'll get you more attention than you probably want. As for mounting them, I honestly don't even know, I imagine the kit will have a tube holder that bolts on somehow.
Also remember how tall your car is off the ground, you might be able to see the lights themselves instead of just their glow, which is probably not the most desired look.
Have you been able to ask anyone with those lights cruising around town?

IMO you should look into some other body and style upgrades before underglow. Just cause that's what everyone else has doesn't mean that's the thing to do. Uniqueness is sometimes the #1 stunner. I didn't have a chance to look if you had HIDs, that's one thing that I thought made my car look pretty cool... and not a whole lot of people have dual sets of HIDs. You can also try some different color combinations of FUNCTIONAL lights.
A clean, professional, stylish look will get you much more points then something like underglow. Think of it this way, the more people that have it, the less appreciated it will be.

I'll chime in about the legality here; some states don't have codes for them actually being mounted, however almost all states will say you CANNOT use them while you are in motion. So basically you can only turn them on when you are parked. Again, it depends on hos strictly enforced the auto laws are in your area. E.g. you could getaway with a lot of stuff living in NYC; the NYPD has more important things to do than bust people for their neon sprayers (no matter how tacky they are).
As to how fragile they are...it depends on where you will be mounting them, you should try to mount them behind one of the plastic pieces like the skirts or rear bumper. Also, it would be wise to put the wiring in a loom and maybe wrap it in heatshield tape if you will be running it close to the exhaust. Best bet is to have the wiring split from right to left sides while the harness is still inside the passenger cabin.
As far as style is concerned...I'll leave that up to personal taste.
Personally I'm not the kind that follows trends. I know what I like and I change my car accordingly. I actually get a lot of compliments from subaru guys, "ricers", and hardcore rally guys alike about my car because 1) it isn't cookie-cutter, 2) it isn't trying too hard to get people's attention, and 3) it looks like it was done from the factory.

I understood the legality to be that you could not show the SOURCE of the illumination - you can show the glow as the light bounces off the pavement, but the bulb/tubes themselves cannot be visible.
Think of it as seeing the glow of a tv through a shaded window at night - you can tell it's on, but you can't see it.

here in vermont you can't have any extra light under your car (ESPECIALLY not blue), except for dim amber and red in the back (for volunteer fire guys and such) and neon within the car can't be above the door sill or dash, kinda like what huffer said, just the glow, no tube.

I can agree that windsheild wiper lights are illegal because if they are red or blue you can somehow mimic a cop (and theyre tasteless). However a nice green glow from underneath the car isn't hurting anyone. Also rougeben83's comment is correct in the fact most of the time you will not be pulled over for having any of it. What is scaring me is huffers comment about cracking them over potholes or speed bumps, maybe on higher clearance cars that can be more advisable then on this one. O and I have been considering HID's as well Grassyknoll.

+1 on HID's, i was thinking about them for my low-beam projectors.

I know a few people who had underglow. You absolutely have to take it off for the winter. 90% of my friends just dont put it back on, and if they do it doesnt work. I imagine the newer LED type would be more resistant to breaking, but not winter and such.

If you absolutely want to do this... get the LED's; theyre tougher and less prone to breaking from vibration being solid-state devices.
I see silentracer is from nyc as well. If you're car is lower than stock height, you'll definitely be cracking one of them eventually. Winter - take them off, if you need to go through a sidestreet that has grey snow on it say goodbye to your neons.

you're from bk nY? and u say everything there is Neons and all flashy stuff? dunno where you hang out. I think alot of the NY racing scene has changed and is more in to performance instead of looks these days...you should try hanging out in LI or BX where true racers hang out. haha jk
If you really wanna put ur neons on maybe you could use a zip tie if you find a good place to place it to...and also if you dont want to risk the neons being broken...you should think about covering it up with like a plexi glass? i dont know how to spell it...but something to cover it so u dont waste money shattering it. just my opinion. hope my idea helps

Don't you mean true ricers?
In seriousness though I have heard storys about all performance clubs in the bx blocking highways to race. I didn't believe it until one of them showed me his 90s chevy s-10 pickup with a corvette engine running on nos. Its sad that theres almost no decent roads though.
Back on topic, this car will never be what i want it to be in terms of performance. Its just too heavy. So im gonna focus on cosmetics.

You don't weigh a significant amount more than a new wrx. Swap the motor, be legit. Spend that money on stuff like JDM rear glass, JDM power folding mirrors, etc. JDM cosmetics > USDM rice.

Calm down, I only do tastefull mods and I promise not to make anyone look bad. I was mearly doing research on the type of stuff available out there, I have no intention of making the leg look like a christmas tree.

you can slip them inside the driveshaft tunnel to get them out of the way so the light isnt visible.

I'm guessing Rob is working Furiously on Photoshop right now.
Anyways, I sincerely doubt Sheepdog was raising his voice, so you don't need to tell him to calm down.
And +1 on fully non-functional driveshaft neon mod.
At least then the wasted money in the form of a fragile tube will be protected...
