I bought this guy, and it was promptly shipped, recieved it within 5 days after the end of the bidding period (shipping took 4 days from Ontario).

So that's how it looks.

Fit isn't perfect, but it has all of the correct size nipples for the EGR and Idle bypass lines, which was a problem with the previous ebay intake I bought.

Apparently the size of the idle air bypass line is different after 97, but my line is 3/4" in diameter, so when I adapted it to the other intake I tried, the idle choked after 5 seconds :-?

Other than that, I had to buy a silicone sleeve and an MAF adapter for the cone filter, as I didn't really feel like making everything line up to the air box, and I really don't like how inefficient the air box is.

As for the cone filter, when I get a K&N or higher end filter (maybe a Perrin), I'll make a little box that cuts the filter off from the engine air and isolates it to the fender (as inspired by Supra90turbo)

Or I might buy some 3" metal tubing and adapt the filter into the fender to mimick the Injen intake.

looks awesome, final impressions? (power wise)

Haven't driven it.

Have a bad exhaust leak (waiting on my muffler to be shipped, still) so I think that would screw up any sort of testing.

It's the same intake tubing that Kevin Thomas on Nasioc did all that Dyno testing on and proved that it gave good gains. Just prettier, and with a nice Idle air bypass valve.

$7 + shipping? I think I might finally break down and get one.

Sorry about that mark, I'll light a fire under his ass. Remember you're getting it for pretty much free though

so would i be able to use this on a 97 BG?

and what is the box that i have coming off the back of the throttle body? its what the air intake hose is hooked to going from the air box to the engine.

I would think so, but I don't know what the hoses on that intake line are like. This one is for people that have that super-large (3/4") Idle air bypass line.

The box behind your throttle body is the Plenum, it's to give you better throttle response by storing air and theoretically forcing air into the manifold better.

Where did you get the MAF adapter?

Is it just laying there or is there a support rod that came with it?

Wiscon_Mark
10-30-2006, 01:15 PM
There is a support rod, but I have no freakin' clue where you're supposed to mount it.

Bought the MAF adapter at Autozone. I'd reccomend that you get one that's subaru specfic though, the universal one isn't mounted that well...

If you have time, can you take a pic of where the intake meets the engine? I want to see how bent, if at all, the silicone sleve is.. just because I've seen it on so many other ebay intakes.

A very slight amount. I left a little slack so when the engine starts, it has some give.

Well, the money is made in shipping.

I actually won an auction on one of these at the same time mark did, but the seller claims that they are out of stock.

I've sent them a couple of emails and they claimed they will either ship it or send a refund, but I haven't received either a tracking number or refund as yet.

For now I'd advise treating Bomb Effect with caution.

How will I ever find another eBay intake.....

Well, I got the refund. I'm still pretty annoyed that they're putting up auctions for stuff they don't actually have in stock, but at least I got the money back.

I wish I had a picture to show, but I used a intake from a '93 EJ22 and put it on my '99 Second Gen. EJ22. It does not ues a MAF, so right after the airbox (on the 93) I removed the plastic intake to the throttle body. I had to do a little fab work making the IAT and vaccum hoses work. I put a large K & N on it and WOW! Sounds great, better mpg, and MUCH better throttle responce. It also has a little more "kicks in the pants" if you know what I mean. I will get my girlfriends digital camera and get some pictures up.

Mark did you need to use anything extra besides the MAF adapter?

Just got mine in and its killing me, stupid rain!

i got mine in the other day. no other parts wwere needed otheer than the extra sleeve and a maf adapter......wow what a difference.

on my 97 outback i didnt need the plastic t, there was already one there under the plenum. i need to get a new IAB hose as the bend in it is kinda weird. i need to find some black tubing for the hoses i dont like the blue. the red is almost an exact match to my car color. i need to find some black sleeving too, i just dont like the blue mixed in

heres a couple of pics:

edit:

heres the t connector :

heres the mount i used, yeah i know it looks like crap but it works perfectly.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2006/12/DSC_0842Small-1.jpg

and here is the IAB line
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2006/12/DSC_0833Small-1.jpg

i was able to use the mount, i twisted it and bolted it under a bolt near the cone filter, i used the original bolts and hardware from the original air box to help with mounting and bolting the maf adapter. ill get some pics up of that soon.

Things I've learned from installing this:

you get what you pay for

no stores in a freakin 20 mile radius of me have a t-connector big enough for the stock hoses

the mount they give you is worthless

MAF adapters from England are of the highest quality (seriously, not sarcasm)

and how much HP do those leaves make Mark? Clean That Engine Bay :smt018

......otherwise looks good.

Those leaves aren't in the engine bay. And it's a bit cold to be spraying water anywhere.

Finally got it installed today

I covered the entire city and NO ONE had a t-connector I could use.
So I decided to make my own, out of brass.

Low end power is very much welcomed, not a big difference but enough for a 20 dollar part.

Sounds a little more bad ass too.
