I am a mothers fan. I just bought a 10" buffer today and when we get a nice day I plan on testing it out. So what do you guys prefer? by hand or machine?

I like any wax that doesn't leave a white residue. And is easy to apply. And lasts a long time.
I am currently using Meguiar's paste... but I'll use it until it's gone.

There was a nice long thread about this very recently. I believe Silentracer was the OP.

HAND!!
If you are inexperienced with a buffer you will eff up the clear bad... Ever see a car with swirls?

Zymol after claybar; it'll make you want to fondle the car - seriously . Otherwise, just regular carnabura wax (whatever I can find locally).
I've also tried Klasse All in One. Good stuff (a little bit on the steep side, not as steep as the zymol though), doesn't leave white residue at all.

I have never used a buffer on my car but I would imagine that you dont want to buff one spot for very long.

As for what wax I use. I use Meguires Cleaner Wax for shine and protection purposes and TurtleWax ICE for shine and alternate the applications. Megires, ICE, Megures, ICE, etc...
Can't complain about a shine like this

I use Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax. It's a liquid. Goes on easy, and it's done a damn good job protecting the car for 3 consecutive central NY winters. I like it a lot.

Let me ask you all this: Does the price of a buffer dictate weather it is any good or not? I bought on from wal-mart for $32 and it came the buffer, 2 batteries, and a charger. The one at homedepot was $30 for the buffer, $40 for 2 batteries, and $20 for the charger.

Probably not so much the buffer but the pads
Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax, applied with a buffer.

The idiot who I owned my wagon before decided to use a buffer on the hood and it's swirled all to shit. I wish I was rich so I could give the whole car a fresh coat of green...

I've been using Turtle Wax ICE .. it makes a nice shine.. but i dunno about the protection. It seems like regular wax would work better than this weird liquid stuff. What do you guys reccomend i use before a nice HARSH new england winter? Does that NXT stuff work good for harsh conditions deadlydave? Is it like a wax liquid, or clear like the turtle wax ice? While i like the turtle wax ice.. i think im gonna pass up on it the next time.. or maybe just use it over some traditional wax.

The NXT Tech Wax works pretty well. I hand-apply it with old t-shirts. I have to say though, make sure to apply it on a cloudy day...it leaves swirls if the paint is warmer than 70 degrees or so. On a clean, sunny day my car's paint looks exactly like badbasser98's paint. My dad uses this on his '65 Corvette too.
