View Full Version : Rear wheels skid when turning tight: differential?

When I turn tight or moderately tight on a corner, the rear wheel (inside the turn) skids and the car slows down.

It seems like the differential is blocked. Any idea what the problem is?

One hypothesis: is it the solenoid inside the differential? If so, is it expensive to replace? Labor, parts?

One even more important question: is it unsafe to drive the car? (for example, on a rainy day, if I have to turn quickly and the rear wheel loses traction because it skids, the car might run out of control)

Thank you!!!

Manual or automatic?

Do a search on torque bind, here and on NASIOC.com

And something else: I tried inserting a fuse in the AWD compartment near the engine but it does not work and the AWD light does not come on in the instrumentation panel...

There is no AWD fuse. There is only a FWD fuse. Make sure you're using the right amp fuse.

if the FWD light on the dash doesn't light up, it's possible that the transfer clutch packs/duty C solenoid is permanently engaged.

My solution for you right now - warm up the car, drive straight line, then reverse, then jack it up and drain the AT fluid. Refill with fresh fluid and Lubegard ATF Protectant ($5 red bottle). Lower car, start, and move shifter through all gear positions. Wait until car is warmed up, go for a drive, do some figure eights, park, move shifter through all gears again.

If that doesn't cure the torque bind problem, then you have a mechanical issue (which seems possible given that the FWD light isn't illuminating).
