First snow today, and my first snow with AWD. Amazing! Such a huge contrast from my last car (FWD Hyundai Accent), I couldn't even believe it! I need to get better at downshifting though, I locked up the fronts a few times. But I could easily put some power down with out kicking the back end out. Great fun!

mind explaining how? Seems whenever I get after it in the snow the rear end always wants to move around... Even when I don't want it to :shock:

I dunno, I can get the tail pretty happy, but I can put a fair acceleration down without slipping as well. It's harder on a 5MT as well, considering it's 50/50 full time.

In my experience, more throttle = more rear end kicking out. Just gotta adjust with the steering or with the gas. Good tires help too of course :wink:

AWD burn outs from a stop light without wiggling around is fun! I can kick the tail out when I choose (if I don't understeer like crazy first).

I don’t know if any of you guys have driven the newer Legacy’s in the snow, but my 05’ OB wagon is virtually unstoppable with snow on the ground! It’s underpowered and an auto so there’s little opportunity to get the wheels to spin, it has added ground clearance and more aggressive treaded tires for great traction, and of course the OB rear LSD and not sure what the front has (if anything) with the new tranny’s. That thing is almost as fun to drive in the snow as my 4x4 SUV… almost… :lol:

:roll: I know I'll miss my car this winter. The truck already spins tires when it's wet with minimal throttle. Sandbags here I come! :lol:

My car is definitly unstoppable in the snow. Ive plowed through snow where I cant open my door. I came to a stop after driving through an unplowed subdivision and the engine died. I couldnt figure it out until I opened the hood and found every orifice filled with snow :lol: (

Anthony- I believe it's only a rear LSD. I don't think any Legacy comes with a Front LSD.

but yeah, that would keep you from getting tail happy :lol:

We will be getting snow here soon, already seen it on some peoples car's at work.. just none around my house yet. Should be fun, since ive never driven in the snow with a legacy yet!! :twisted: .. well, at least THIS legacy =]

I've had some relatively good experience drifting with FWD, RWD, and AWD and AWD definately holds my preference. It seems like no matter how rediculous a slide you are in, you still have perfect control over the car. However, I would say two negative points.

-to slide on pavement, you either need a rediculous amount of speed / space or not AWD

-on pavement, the Subaru AWD cars understear like a mo-fkin biatch

Other then that, I heart my AWD :)

reading this thread made me really excited!

We'll be getting snow in a few weeks, it's gotten really cold and I'm getting my snows put on this coming up tuesday. I can't wait to see what it feels like!

Well, yeah, the tail will get more happy as you put more power to it, so an automatic is less likely to whip you around unless you have it locked in 1 or 2.

Not if you dial in the right amount of camber and tire pressure :twisted:

(Actually what you're doing is getting the rear more unstable so when the front understeers the rear will want to come around and counter it)...

Yea, we got some snow last night.. not enough though.. but its still snowing. Soon i will be able to see how this beast handles with the tires i have =]

Yeah we didn't get much either, it was mostly ice. But it was enough to get me excited about it :smile:

I'm on junk tires too by the way. Some crappy Kelly all-seasons that came with the car. When they're shot I'll be looking for some WRX or RS rims w/ summer tires, and some blizzaks or something for next winter.

Its easy to pick Subie drivers out of a crowd - they are the only ones looking forward to a snowy ride home. I haven't driven the Leg in snow yet, but I know my STi moved through snow like it had caterpillar tracks. I know the Leg is 2 LSD's short of the STi, but I think it should still do quite well.

Haha, yeah, I definately look forward to snowy drives.

Today was the first day of snow here, and you would swear people didnt know what it was. Accidents everywhere made me an hour late to school.

I should have switched my tires while stopped in traffic for that hour. Bald RE92's FTL! I was trying to make an exit off the highway on a downhill, and my ABS would come on at the slightest touch of the pedal. I just gave up, geared down and prayed for traction. I had to flick it sideways a few other times to change my direction.

Now I know why people hate winter. Its because they dont have proper tires!
