View Full Version : Flashing AT Oil Temp Light

So yesturday i got a dreaded light. The AT Oil Temp Light stayed on and started flashing. Of course in the manual it says that there's something wrong with the tranny and to take it to subaru immediatly. I noticed while turning sharp and going forward or backwards, it feels like there is some locking or binding. Now i know that some subaru's have this torque bind issue, so does this sound like thats it? The things that after starting the car again after the light didnt flash. So now im worried and confused... What do you guys think it is and could it be that torque bind issure or a bad diff? something like that... I dont know, i just know it sucks.. :roll:


ps.. maybe its time to start half of that swap idea now....

Check and replace the fluid first

thats what i want to do first. should i change the fluid in the diffs as well, or just the tranny? also, is there any type of lube gaurd of sort that i can put in the diffs as well?

planned on getting one hopefully at some time, just didnt think it would be now. I've been trying to find out exactly what it would take to make it 5mt... like i said, this might just have to come first, then finish the swap...

Drain fluid. Replace fluid x 2, during 2nd refill add Lubegard ATF protectant. Continue to drive quite happily for several thousand miles.

Monitor tire heights to be consistent.

Search on torque bind...

Mines been flashing 16 times when start up. its been awhile now, still havent figure anything out yet. maybe its the filter?

and yes ive change the fluids.

well i got the tranny flushed and conditioned and that took most of it away. But the light still comes on even though i dont really feel any tourque bind.. Im thinking i might have to reset the ecu.. although i might have the rear diff checked tomorrow... it just never ends :-(

Maybe not, but on the later BE models Subaru does sell replacement filters.

so I would still replace the filter if you're changing the AT fluid.

The AT is very temperature sensitive - the rear diff has no electonic hookup so it won't be telling the AT anything (to turn the warning light on).

Reset your ECU, and consider replacing the AT temp sensor.
