View Full Version : What makes the wipers park?

This morning my wipers were not parking for part of my trip, I would need to time when I was turning them off so they would not be in the middle of windshield. Does anybody know which component controls the parking feature?

I am thinking it is all handled by the wiper motor so I am going to start by checking the connections to it to make sure that checks out. Unless I hear otherwise I may be replacing my wiper motor. Wonder how expensive they are.

wiper motor wouldnt be the culprit, it would be the electronics. I'd check the wiper stalk first

Yeah, it's gotta be the stalk. The only time my wipers stay in the middle of the windshield is when I turn off the car. So it doesn't sound like it's a power to the motor type issue.

Yep, all the control electronics are in the little circuit at the base of the stalk. That's why you can convert from non-variable intermittent to variable by just changing the stalk.

You can convert to variable intermittent wipers by changing out the stalk only? Anyone have any further info on this or even better a how-to? I'd be very interested in doing that...

I already made a post about it

Basically, you find a Legacy with intermittent wipers, then put it in your car. Thats it

could be the motor... park switch stuck in closed position.

get jumper wires, unplug the motor, and start jumping. you'll see real quick if the motor's alright.

That sounds like a bad idea

why would that be a bad idea?

a wiper motor receives full voltage, it's the brushes that determine the speed the motor turns.

so if you ground it and then jump power to the correct pin, then you will make it run. if no run, bad motor.

for the pansies out there, get a multi-meter and get poking.

Heh. I got rid of my BE partly because it didn't have an adjustable intermittant setting! >_<

I wonder if it would be possible to get the blades to park in the full up position. It would look retarded, but you would have less wind resistance... Well, theroetically.
