P0325 fault knock sensor

Hi guys,

I'm new here but am already in need of assistance. My brother has a 1999 Legacy L 2.2l. His check engine light is illuminated with a fault for P0325 knock sensor circuit bank 1. I searched and found that knock sensors seem to be a common issue with the legacy's of this generation. Although i must mention that he replaced his own timing belt. Could misaligned cam timing be causing excessive knock or should i just start with diagnosing the knock sensor circuit?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's probably just the sensor.

If he misaligned the timing belt on that car, he would have much greater problems, and a cam sensor fault code would appear.
