Piston Slap

When my 01 outback(yea i know its not "quite" a legacy..but its the same engine) with its 2.5 phaseII engine starts up and is still cold, I notice a distinct "slapping" sound...i am guessing this is the infamous piston slap...is there any fix to the piston slap? Or is that just the way the engine works and it won't cause any problems?

Sounds like piston slap or valve clatter...if it goes away when the engine warms up, don't worry about it.

Would it hurt anything to drive the car while its doing this? yeah mine warms up and goes away, but i was wondering say if i was in a hurry and just went out and hopped in and drove off, would it hurt anything..? Thanks

its not reall piston slap its more likely just the valvetrain not geting enough oil on it. i was reading a magazine made by subaru(dont remember teh name0 and it says that some time that the o-ring that seals the oil pump to teh block gets cracked and sucks in some air. that is all i know
