Okay, so I was looking at the KYB .pdf catalog online and noticed something. Apparently the Legacy/Outback suspension changed in 2002? I also noticed that Eibach lists Outback springs ONLY for 2002-2004. So what's the deal? What changed in 2002? This is really important for me because I'm planning my suspension build right now. Apparently the Outback suspension was changed in June of 2002 and the Legacy suspension was changed beginning with the 2003 model. See for yourselves:

What's the deal? Will this affect my build or will I be safe just going with 2001 Legacy struts?

I had the same problem with my '03 Legacy sedan. They had different part #'s for the '02 versus the '03-'04s. I didn't think Subaru had redesigned the suspension for '03, so I called KYB. The first guy I talked to told me I was SOL, and had to buy the year-specific struts/shocks, which were retailing for over $500 at local shops. Then, I called them back, got a different person who told me the only thing they changed were part #'s, and nothing about the design was different. I'd call KYB to double check, but that's how it worked for my Legacy.

No, there was no change. The spring & strut companies are idiots for claiming so.

I mean, they'd just come out with the multilink in 2000, why would they change it mid-body style?

Okay, so I'll probably be safe going with 00-02 Legacy struts then.

Doesn't matter dude. Anything rated from 00-04 is good for you. Just different part #s, not different parts.

But this would also explain why Eibach only lists their springs from '02+

Eibach changed thier part #s for the same reason KYB did...because they like to change part #s

So you think I'd be safe with the Eibachs, then? Has anyone on here done Eibachs on a BH Outback (or legacy, for that matter)?

Well, they don't have a wagon spec, so you might get sag in the rear after a while. But the difference is negligable.

Ugh. I forgot. I just assumed it was for the wagon. Well, I'll probably switch to Cusco or Tein coilovers after a couple years. Plus I'm gonna try to lighten the crap outta my car.
