Hi there Legacy types, I'm Mike Carpenter:

I work for Dell.

Anyhow, about a year ago it was time to buy a car for my girlfriend to learn to drive on. My neon had just been totaled (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v511/neonmike22/Milly/byemillysm.jpg), so I started looking for something that would be easy to handle, with an automatic that didn't make me angry. After a few weeks of research, I thought maybe a legacy would be a good choice. The wagon would have good rear visibility, and the gear ratio was pretty short. I originally found one local to me in Pittsburgh, but the seller was a super shady used car lot that didn't want to make a deal with me, and the car had some rust. So it was off to eBay to look for a car. I found this one:

But it was in Boston. Not to be detered, I hopped a plane:

And before you knew it I was on my way home:

It wasn't long before I put it on the dyno at the place I worked at at the time. As you can see, the 2.2 is super-powerful:

Since then I've added in GT wheels, a whiteline front swaybar, and GT-B bilsteins:

Since Legacy's been my only car, he's had to serve as my racecar:

And, well I've gotten pretty good at driving it:

As seen here where i beat the whole corvette club. Scroll down to "tire pax class" and look for me! :) (http://www.trscca.com/trscca/results/100806_sum.htm)

It's been a great car for me so far! I like to say that it more or less does everything right that the neon used to get wrong. The 4EAT doesn't make me mad. :) I've had to do some basic maintainence since i got the car, both front axles, both front wheel bearings, both front ball joints, and a water pump / timing belt.

And that's my story. :)

HOLY SHIT!! It's Marks twin brother! lol Welcome to SLi, You will have enough reading to do for info on your Legacy. I was wondering what size engine you had on your other thread. So that is the stock numbers on a 2.2, thats cool. I need stock numbers on a GT now. Welcome..

Are the pictures above your car with the bilsteins installed? I could've sworn I read elsewhere that they give a slight drop. Also, what other suspension stuff have you done? The fact that you beat out the vettes, m3, s2000, etc... just goes to show experience is definately one of the best mods to a car.

I didn't notice a drop, but i didn't really measure either.

As for other suspension stuff, that's seriously it, JDM Bilsteins, GT wheels w/ stock size Avon Tech M500s, Whiteline front bar.

I definitely need those bilsteins.

I had a set but sold them to a kid w/ an impreza, and the lifted the car a lot, so i can definatley say they're stiff son of a guns.

The front is awesome. With less bodyroll up front it really feels like the car handles better. On a street car that's a big deal. The wagon oversteers enough that i'm not too worried about changing the rear bar, which keeps me legal for autox.

As much as I love the car, I hope he's retired from autox in the spring. I really want that Miata!
