Back before I got the legacy, i had a couple neons. The one this post is about was my weekend autocross / track day car.

Car started out life as a '98 DOHC 5MT. I added most of the mopar performance catalog: koni struts, autox springs, quaife, poly bushings, motor mounts, intake, ECU, etc. Also had Kosei K1 wheels, JDM lights, a custom shift light, etc.

She made about 145whp or so on the dyno right before I sold it. As i recently found out, i ran it for 6 years with the intake cam set wrong, the car would run really strong up to 6500rpm and then puke & die. Best 1/4 mile was a 14.8 @ 93.

The car handled really well too. I won a couple STX championships locally. Best lap around Beaverun was in the 1:14 range, about 6 seconds faster than my stock SOHC neon.

It seems like a lot of people go from neons to Subarus.

Of course, theres a lot of Neons so maybe thats why!

I was like... "JDM Neon lights? Whaaa?" Then I saw your tail lights and those are very different. Didn't know there were neons in japan. Looks nice. Its a very clean car, and that would explain your legacy autocross skills, you've done it before. :wink:

They only sold about 3000 of the 1st generations like mine in Japan from 97-99. Found a picture of one from back in '01:

It has USA lights up front, that's a big deal in JDM land. ;)

Neons look like they make decent Auto-X cars.

One of our most competative guys when I auto-xed drove a Neon Coupe. Nice little car. Of course, Davis and his STi couldn't be beaten by many.

Neons, contrary to popular belief, are outstanding F/F performance platforms. Especially the ACR and R/T versions.
