hi,

this sound makes me upset. it appears only when the engine is hot and in idle. it seems to come from under the engine (engine block?). the knocking disappears when I rev it higher. I think I heard it 2 years ago for the first time.

any ideas what the heck can it be??

Probably just the Hydraulic Lash adjusters.

The sound of a boxer engine :lol: ..jk..

Mine ticks like crazy when its cold in the morning, damn subarus :roll:

yes, boxer engines :grin:

but the only difference is that it doesn't tick but just knocks or clanks. And only wenn it's hot. When I start the car in the morning, I can't hear THAT SOUND.

I don't know if you can hear it in those samples, they don't give it exactly... so only when it idles, there's that knocking sound. Someone told me it could be a bearing from crankshaft (how you call it in english?)

No, that's not a heatshield sound.

well the noise is half engine speed which means its in the cam area somewhere. bearing sounds like a good diagnosis to me

exactly. Put a metal rod to each head and listen to figure out which side its on.

I had an '85 Celica that made a similar sound - it was the timing chain. Not that familiar with other Legs to know if your car has a timing chain or belt though.

Only the EZ30R has a timing chain.

Let's say its a bearing. Is it serious failure? What can happen next? Any solution? As I said I could hear it for last two years...

That's not a bearing, dude.

If it is, you'd want to get the engine rebuilt. But it's just your typical hydraulic lash adjuster noise.
