View Full Version : valve cover gasket

I'm changing both valvecover gaskets tomorrow morning and was just wondering if theres anything specific to the 2.5L i should worry about. Im assuming you take all the bolts off, take the gasket out, put the new one it and put the bolts back on. I'm looking forward to doing it and i hope im not dissapointed :smile:

thanks alot,
kind of wondering if i should oil the new gasket or anything before i put it in and what the little metal rings with rubber on one side are for

You should do the spark plugs and change the spark plug gaskets while your at it.

all the gaskets came in a set and i am doing the plugs at the same time

You want to make sure the gasket surfaces are clean and free of all oil or grease. Get some RTV and put a little dab on the corners around the cam cap, that ensures a good seal in those tight places.

still wondering about the metal rings with rubber on them, read the haynes manual and it says nothing about them unless i missed it

well the metal rings are washer/gaskets but now i cant get them to go back in because they are new and arent squished yet. Any suggestions?
I got the back two on the top and bottom in but the threads on the other 4 wont reach the head. Starting to piss me off :mad:

I had no problem with the washers. I installed them into the valve cover first, than put the bolt through. I had more than enough wiggle room to get the bolts into the head straight.

ya i kinda screwed myself because when i was taking the bolts out only some of the old washers came out so when i went to put the new ones in the old ones were still in there causing my problem with the spacing. chalk this one up to me being a noob.
everything else went okay and the new gaskets are now installed
