I'm back in the fold!

My BE has been going downhill. Front bumper, right side doors, gas tank, fuel gauge, etc. It started to leak gasoline the other day, and I had enough.

I saw a Legacy Wagon with a 5 speed at the dealership yesterday, when looking for a car with a friend. I ignored it, since I was looking for something for her.

Today, I had a crappy day. After work, I went back to the lot, and there it was. A 1998 Legacy 2.5 GT Wagon.

The dealer appraised my BE as being worth $5000, then lowered it to $4500 due to the damage. I jumped on it. I got the BK for $10,000, got $4500 for the BE, and added $1,000 onto that in cash.

I started with a 1995 Legacy L Wagon, then got a 2000 Legacy L Sedan. I have to say, the 1998 takes everything I liked about the 1995 Wagon, everything I like from the 2000 Sedan, and combines them. Then, it adds in more neat things I didn't even know about until after I got the car home!

I thought it was about right, i've been looking for about a month. I'm selling my 95 LS sedan and buying a 99 30th annv. with 77000 miles for 9000

For $10k I'd make sure they changed the head gaskets already. However, glad you are happy with your purchase. That's a very low amount to be given on trade in for your BE. Kind of surprising.

Well, considering the damage on the BE, no, he wouldn't get a trade in anywhere near 10k, but he could've gotten more.

KBB on the Legacy 2.5GT Wagon I got is around $10k, actually. KBB on my BE was around $2,500. They gave me $4,500.

The Wagon has 104k miles, but it's in almost perfect condition. Interior is in great shape, seats are comfy, no problems with the paint, like all of 2 dings, straight body, body panels are aligned perfectly, good alignment, etc. The sunroof works fine, doesn't leak.

This car was worth $10k. It's fully loaded, it has like every option available in 1998 except maybe leather (thank god).

Other than needing a tuneup and maybe a clutch, this thing is in good condition.

eh, it's too late now to be telling him about the price. As long as you're happy with your new ride, that's all that matters. Just means you got to keep it a little longer to get the most out of what you paid for it :grin:

You also have to realize that this is the West Coast. There is more demand for these cars than supply, so they end up getting them from the East Coast. The car has no rust on it, or anything like that. And no, this is actually probably the third or fourth Legacy GT I've seen in this area in several years. They are rare here, maybe not in the central or East part of the country. I honestly think I've seen more SVX and XT's than Legacy GT's (pre 2002) here.

Clutch isn't expensive to replace. The local shop I use did a clutch job and fixed a bent valve on our 1995 Legacy L for $300.

Oh, for the record. KBB for the BE, in perfect condition, no damage at all, is $9,000. KBB for the BK, in it's current condition, is $9,190. KBB for the BE as it is, is right at about $2500. The dealership couldn't wholesale the car for $2500 even!

I should have been more specific. :p The part of the West Coast I live at has like no Subies, but lots of people want them. The car I got came from the Portland area, someone was on a road trip and traded it in for a new car while passing through.

Ah, well. Put in the Year, model, and zip code, and it pops up $9,200-ish on KBB.
