Ever since I bought the car the inside trunk release never worked so I just assumed it was broke and didn't really care, its just a little annoyance. Whenever I tried to see what was wrong I could never find anything.. until today!

I was closing the trunk when I saw writing on the latch, I looked only to find "Trunk Release Cancel" with a latch for on/off. Flipped the switch then tried the inside release and holy crap it worked. I guess it could be useful to cancel the release but the switch is in a really poor position, it can easily be knocked back into "cancel"

I got real excited, the Legacy got even more sexy all on its own.

lol same thing happened to me. I thought I broke the cable that lead to it so I started taking it apart (thank god I started at the trunk side) and found the cancel. I felt like such an idiot after.

After all the threads I read about fixing your trunk etc. I have never seen anything about the cancel.

*goes out to car and looks for said cancel switch*

Mines got that too... I've noticed the lever before, but never took the time to read what it said. Interesting...

The rear seats also have locks as well. I think this feature is GREAT because if you have an amp, or sub in your car and both the seats and trunk is locked, it makes it that much harder for the theives to get into the trunk!

I've never seen this feature before on any other vehicle.. I love it!

Apparently Crystler Sebrings have that too. I found that out the hard way when I locked the keys in the trunk...

I have a strange problem with my trunk release lever in which when t is in the "normal" position, the trunk is somewhat difficult to close. Unless I slam it fairly hard, the trunk will just bounce back open as if something were in the way. I looked into it some more, and I think what is happening is when the closing mechanism hits the bottom of the trunk, the lever somehow pushes down slightly, which is the emergency trunk release, from the inside, which thus opens it up again. When the lever is in the "cancel" position, it works fine, trunk closes with no problems.

really good to know if you were gonna kidnap someone and you didnt want them to get out of your trunk to just put the cancel on the inside trunk release....

not that I would ever do that ,,,,

im just saying

Haha the cancel is the same lever as the interior release so it is impossible to do that  . That would be hilarious if they made it that way though.

When I picked up my BD last year I was a bit ticked that the trunk release didn't work. I eventually found out that it was that same switch, luckily before I started to take things apart. Also, recently my rear passenger side door didn't work from the inside, and I thought it was busted. Turned out to be the child lock!

Weird..mine does..and its always in teh cancel position. No access from inside of car = locked compartment that cant be searched without a warrant.

The wagon has its release on the gate itself, so no, I don't think so.

how would i go about removing the sensor in the rear hatch, then? i gotta either clean it or replace it, the car keeps telling me that the hatch is open when i know good and damn well it's closed.

The only sensor back there is a switch linked to the dash cluster. If the switch isn't grounded then it won't work...

That has nothing to do with the trunk release cancel...
