Phase II require Subaru Coolant Addative?

Planning a coolant flush and fill some time in the next week or so... do the Phase II SOHC engines require the coolant system sealer addative from Subaru or is that strictly a Phase I item? If not required I'd much rather not use addatives intended for sealing purposes simply cause they usually gunk things up.

Im not exactly sure, I just change my coolant and dump in some subaru cooling system conditioner, that i got at subaru. cost like $2 for 2 small bottles.

Use the conditioner. It's cheap insurance - all Subaru's use it.

Phase II engines are highly recommend to get the conditioner. There was a recall for our cars (the acknowledged there was a problem with Phase II, but not phase I :roll: ) So I got the conditioner put in for free by the dealer. 2000 LGT by the way.

Some people have had problems with it clogging the radiator, but radiators are cheaper than headgasket jobs...

Precisely why I don't like using these kinds of addatives - they work by clogging things up. However, it seems like the consensus is to use it under the assumption that the benefits outweigh the possible negatives.

just picked up the cooling system conditioner and the long life coolant from subaru....

i'm gonna flush with the new coolant and add the conditioner...

hopefully it will be good

On my next coolant flush I am going to try the Reline water wetter or RP Purple ICE. I have a scan gauge so I will be able to see if there are any differences.
