I'm going to take a look at the timing belt on my 98 2.2L

I dont know if its brand new, replaced, or if its original (214k km, 133k miles). What signs should I look for to see if its too worn?

If it's original, replace it!

On the 2.2L they're supposed to be serviced every 60k miles! And you have an interference engine.

Yeah I know, that's why I'm a bit antsy about it.

It doesn't seem too bad, but what do I know. The covers had some scribbling that looked like 02. so maybe it was replaced the year before I got the car (Ive put almost 70k km on it, 44k miles) Its definitely not original since there seems to be paint marks on it from inspection.

There will be cracks along the corners...look for cracks on the straightaways...that'll indicate that the belt is worn.

It still has the markings on it, you should be fine unless you're paranoid like me, then replace it
